Conover-Land O' Lakes
Spay and neuter clinic to visit Conover Aug. 3

The Fix Is In, a low-cost spay and neuter clinic, recently announced it will be at the Conover Town Hall Saturday, Aug. 3.

Fees for cats start at $40, dogs at $85. There are no income requirements and pets do not stay overnight.

Included with the spay or neuter surgery is a free rabies vaccination, nail trim and ear cleaning, as needed.

Appointments are required and can be made

Ride with Leinie Aug. 9-10 features bike rides, beer tasting

Wilderness Lakes Trails, Brew’s Pub, Forest Lake Country Store, Leinen­kugel’s and Miller Beer of the Northwoods have joined together to sponsor the family-friendly Ride with Leinie weekend Fri., Aug. 9, and Sat., Aug. 10.

The event features two days of biking and entertainment to benefit the continuing development of the Wilderness Lakes Trail system.

Friday, Aug. 9, two fat tire rides will be offered beginning at Brew’s Pub in downtown Land O’ Lakes.

The 12-mile and 24-mile rides will be held along newly

Food donation
Over the past several months, Club 45 Sports Bar and Grill collected food to be donated to the food pantry in Land O’ Lakes.  A monetary donation was also made to purchase more food.  Volunteers, along with Club 45 Owner Jen Payne, helped drop off the donations at the food pantry. LOLA slates watercolor class PDF Print E-mail

Land O’ Lakes Area Artisans Inc. (LOLA) will host Introduction to Watercolors classes Wednesday, July 31, and Sunday, Aug. 4, both from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Artist Wendy Powalisz will lead the classes. Participants will learn basic washes, brush strokes and techniques with the goal of successful painting with transparent watercolors.

All materials are supplied. The classes are for adults and children ages 12 and older. The cost for adults is $35, and $18 for children.

Children's program
As part  of the Land O’ Lakes Public Library’s summer reading program, Tom Pease recently performed in front of the library. The event included  singing, dancing and learning. Pease sang original songs about reading and books, self-esteem, the environment, family stories, cultural diversity, peace, the joy of laughter and movement, and the most requested song, “The Bellybutton Song.” This program was sponsored by Conserve School of Land O’ Lakes. Historical society schedules s’mores and storytelling event

The Land O’ Lakes Historical Society members  will present “S’mores and More, Storytelling by Local Guides,” a community family event, at the Land O’ Lakes NorthernWaters Museum garden, Sunday, July 28, from 6 to 8 p.m.

In case of rain, the alternate site will be the Land O’ Lakes park pavilion, located directly behind the museum area.

All s’mores ingredients will be provided, as well as sticks for roasting.

Trout Creek to host picnic, class reunions

Trout Creek/Interior Township, Mich. will host a community picnic and reunion of the Trout Creek High School classes of 1962, ’63 and ’64 Saturday, Aug. 10.

In the event that construction work at the Abbott Fox Community Park is not completed, the potluck gathering will be held at the Trout Creek American Legion Hall.

The day’s events will begin with a flag raising at noon by members of American Legion Post No. 494.

Disc jockey music will provide entertainment. Crafters are invited

Cisco riparians set picnic

The 51st annual Cisco Chain Riparian Owners Association (CCROA) Picnic is scheduled Sunday, July 21, at a new venue, Vacationland Resort located on Hebert Road in Watersmeet, Mich.

The resort, which has lake frontage on Thousand Island Lake, offers a central location on the Cisco Chain.

According to the CCROA, the site features ample parking, a sand beach, a wading area for children and grassy areas for fun and games.

Welcoming activities, which begin at 11:30 a.m.

Conover parade
The theme for this year’s Fourth of July parade in Conover was Hometown Pride Found Only in America. Following the parade, the Conover Lions Club hosted a picnic in the town park which included food, games and prizes for children, raffle drawings and music.
