The Land O’ Lakes Historical Society’s NorthernWaters Museum opened  Wednesday, June 26, as a gala reception for Land O’ Lakes Historical Society members, guests and museum supporters was held at the museum, located in the Land O’ Lakes Town Park.

Library schedules magic show, singer

Land O’ Lakes Library recently announced its upcoming events.

Wednesday, July 3, at 10 a.m., presents The Magic of Jim Mitchell. Mitchell will performs feats of magic and comedy. This program will be held at the Land O’ Lakes Town Hall.

Monday, July 8, Movie Monday, “Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days,” will last approximately 94 minutes.

VFW Auxiliary to host community blood drive July 16

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary will host a community blood drive Tuesday, July 16, from 1 to 5 p.m. at the fire barn, located at 4773 Highway B in Land O’ Lakes.

“Blood donors are dedicated people who give of themselves, often without knowing who they help,” said Jan Hadsell of the Community Blood Center. “Volunteer blood donors help make it possible for patients in area hospitals to receive lifesaving blood transfusions. They are truly everyday heroes.”

Rug exhibit

LOLA slates singing event

The Land O’ Lakes Area Artisans (LOLA) announced it will host musician and composer Jeanne Julseth-Heinrich from Hazelhurst as she leads an hour of interactive singing to “Your Voice, Your Soul,” Sunday, July 14, at 1 p.m at  Hope Luthern Church of Land O’ Lakes.

Julseth-Heinrich was artistic director of the Northwoods Hymn Fest in northern Wisconsin for 12 years.

Land O’ Lakes Area Artisans announce upcoming events

The Land O’ Lakes Area Artisans Inc. (LOLA) recently announced its upcoming events during its series 100 Days of Art.

• Sunday, July 7, Quilts of the Civil War and Underground Railroad, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the LOLA Center for the Arts. Quilt historian and artist Sandra Hodgman will discuss the role the art of quilts played in the abolition movement, the underground railroad and the Civil War.

About one dozen quilts will be shown from the period of 1860 through 1880 in this presentation.

Land O’ Lakes July 4th parade scheduled to begin at noon

The theme of the Land O’ Lakes Independence Day parade this year is “Honoring the Forefathers of America.”

“Decorate your bike, trike, big wheel, lawn tractor, car, truck, boat, RV, dog, cat or whatever you’d like to show off in the parade and join the fun,” said Susan Keintz of Frosty Snowmobile Club Inc.

The parade will begin July 4, at noon at Oak Street and Highway B by Bel-Air Motel.

Lions Club to host July 4th celebration

The Conover Lions Club will host its Independence Day celebration Thursday, July 4. The theme for the parade this year is “Home Town Pride Found Only In America.”

Preregistration is not required. The day’s festivities begin at 1 p.m. with the parade traveling through downtown Conover and continuing to the town park on Highway K East. The park will open at noon.

Northwoods quilters

NorthernWaters Museum scheduled to open June 27

The Land O’ Lakes NorthernWaters Museum recently announced that the exhibit, “Guides: Past and Present” will expand for the 2013 season with tales, photos and adventures from the guides who introduced many of today’s residents to the North Woods.

The Land O’ Lakes Historical Society will open the 2013 season with a gala party at the museum Wednesday, June 26, from 4 to 6 p.m.  The event will feature wine and hors d’oeuvres, and will be chaired by Lisa Stemen.

Docent training for the new exhibit will be held Tuesday, June 25, at 10 a.m and, if necessary, at 1 p.m.
