LOLA slates upcoming art classes

Land O’ Lakes Area Artisans Inc. (LOLA) recently announced the schedule for upcoming classes.

“Multiple sessions of our art classes are offered so you can select a time for art that fits your busy summer schedule,” said a LOLA spokesperson.

Classes for ages eight and older are spirit animals mask making, native plant illustration with water colors, found object portraits and sound sculptures.

The classes are held Tuesdays, Thursdays

Library announces upcoming events

The Land O’ Lakes Library recently announced its upcoming events.

 

Children’s programs

Dig Into Dinosaurs will be held Wednesday, June 19, at 10 a.m. with the Northwoods Wildlife Center of Minocqua. This event is the kickoff to this summer’s reading theme of Dig Into Reading. Participants will receive a summer reading packet after the program. This program is sponsored by Conserve School.

“Thunderstruck,” a comedy  starring James Belushi and NBA player Kevin Durant, will be shown Monday, June 24.  The film is 94 minutes long.

Musical performance slated at farmers market

The Land O’ Lakes Farmers Market announced it will feature a musical performance by Jim Schwanke on the ocarina Thursday, June 27, from 10:30 a.m. to noon.

The ocarina is a wind instrument typically made of  clay or ceramic with numerous holes to create rustic wind sounds.

Its origin dates back thousands of years in cultures of the Mayan, Aztec, India and China.

Family bingo slated June 19

The Land O’ Lakes Chamber of Commerce will be sponsoring family bingo again this summer on Wednesday eve­nings at St. Albert’s Catholic Church hall.

The first bingo night will be June 19 and will continue throughout the summer until August 21. The doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and games will begin at 7 p.m.

There will be twelve regular games

Evangelical Church to host Koinonia Singers June 28
Conover Evangelical Free Church announced that it will host the Koinonia Singers, shown above, for a free concert and dinner Friday, June 28, at the church, located at 3725 Highway 45 in Conover.                                         —Contributed Photo

Conover Evangelical Free Church has announced that it will host the Koinonia Singers for a free concert and dinner Friday, June 28, at the church, located at 3725 Highway 45 in Conover.

The dinner is at 6 p.m. followed by the concert at 7 p.m.

“The Koinonia Singers are a lively group of 25 to 30 high-school students sharing their testimony of Jesus’ love through contemporary Christian songs, skits and fellowship,” said a church spokes­person.

Chamber plans Taste of Conover

The Conover Chamber of Commerce will host the seventh annual Taste of Conover Sunday, June 30, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Conover Park Pavilion located on Highway K East.

Attendees will be able to sample food items for breakfast, lunch, dinner and desserts from 15 area businesses.

Each vendor will have food items

Students volunteer at community garden

Ten Conserve School students recently joined 20 adult volunteers to help cleanup and repair the Land O’ Lakes Community Garden for its fifth season.

Students weeded, unpacked garden furniture from the storage building, laid new barrier cloth on common areas and walkways and helped prepare drip lines for another summer of use.

LOLA announces events, classes

Land O’ Lakes Area Artisans (LOLA) recently announced the upcoming events and classes of its 100 Days of Art series. The upcoming events and classes are:

•?Line Dancing continues every Tuesday morning at St. Albert’s Catholic Church on Highway B with a Beginners class at 9:45 a.m., and a High Beginners class at 11 a.m. No registration is needed. Cost is $4 for one class or $6 for both.

•?Painting With Frosting: The Art of Cake Decorating will be presented by baker Linda Charbarneau Wednesday, June 19, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Pine Cone Café. Charbarneau will demonstrate the art of cake decoration. Participants will decorate cakes and sample the results.

After meeting the first challenge of 6500 box tops in January, coordinator and kindergarten teacher Cathy Benecke challenged them to collect another 2500 before the end of the year with the reward
