LOLA slates singing event

The Land O’ Lakes Area Artisans (LOLA) announced it will host musician and composer Jeanne Julseth-Heinrich from Hazelhurst as she leads an hour of interactive singing to “Your Voice, Your Soul,” Sunday, July 14, at 1 p.m at  Hope Luthern Church of Land O’ Lakes.

Julseth-Heinrich was artistic director of the Northwoods Hymn Fest in northern Wisconsin for 12 years.

Land O’ Lakes Area Artisans announce upcoming events

The Land O’ Lakes Area Artisans Inc. (LOLA) recently announced its upcoming events during its series 100 Days of Art.

• Sunday, July 7, Quilts of the Civil War and Underground Railroad, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the LOLA Center for the Arts. Quilt historian and artist Sandra Hodgman will discuss the role the art of quilts played in the abolition movement, the underground railroad and the Civil War.

About one dozen quilts will be shown from the period of 1860 through 1880 in this presentation.

Land O’ Lakes July 4th parade scheduled to begin at noon

The theme of the Land O’ Lakes Independence Day parade this year is “Honoring the Forefathers of America.”

“Decorate your bike, trike, big wheel, lawn tractor, car, truck, boat, RV, dog, cat or whatever you’d like to show off in the parade and join the fun,” said Susan Keintz of Frosty Snowmobile Club Inc.

The parade will begin July 4, at noon at Oak Street and Highway B by Bel-Air Motel.

Lions Club to host July 4th celebration

The Conover Lions Club will host its Independence Day celebration Thursday, July 4. The theme for the parade this year is “Home Town Pride Found Only In America.”

Preregistration is not required. The day’s festivities begin at 1 p.m. with the parade traveling through downtown Conover and continuing to the town park on Highway K East. The park will open at noon.

Northwoods quilters

NorthernWaters Museum scheduled to open June 27

The Land O’ Lakes NorthernWaters Museum recently announced that the exhibit, “Guides: Past and Present” will expand for the 2013 season with tales, photos and adventures from the guides who introduced many of today’s residents to the North Woods.

The Land O’ Lakes Historical Society will open the 2013 season with a gala party at the museum Wednesday, June 26, from 4 to 6 p.m.  The event will feature wine and hors d’oeuvres, and will be chaired by Lisa Stemen.

Docent training for the new exhibit will be held Tuesday, June 25, at 10 a.m and, if necessary, at 1 p.m.

LOLA slates upcoming art classes

Land O’ Lakes Area Artisans Inc. (LOLA) recently announced the schedule for upcoming classes.

“Multiple sessions of our art classes are offered so you can select a time for art that fits your busy summer schedule,” said a LOLA spokesperson.

Classes for ages eight and older are spirit animals mask making, native plant illustration with water colors, found object portraits and sound sculptures.

The classes are held Tuesdays, Thursdays

Library announces upcoming events

The Land O’ Lakes Library recently announced its upcoming events.

 

Children’s programs

Dig Into Dinosaurs will be held Wednesday, June 19, at 10 a.m. with the Northwoods Wildlife Center of Minocqua. This event is the kickoff to this summer’s reading theme of Dig Into Reading. Participants will receive a summer reading packet after the program. This program is sponsored by Conserve School.

“Thunderstruck,” a comedy  starring James Belushi and NBA player Kevin Durant, will be shown Monday, June 24.  The film is 94 minutes long.

Musical performance slated at farmers market

The Land O’ Lakes Farmers Market announced it will feature a musical performance by Jim Schwanke on the ocarina Thursday, June 27, from 10:30 a.m. to noon.

The ocarina is a wind instrument typically made of  clay or ceramic with numerous holes to create rustic wind sounds.

Its origin dates back thousands of years in cultures of the Mayan, Aztec, India and China.

Family bingo slated June 19

The Land O’ Lakes Chamber of Commerce will be sponsoring family bingo again this summer on Wednesday eve­nings at St. Albert’s Catholic Church hall.

The first bingo night will be June 19 and will continue throughout the summer until August 21. The doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and games will begin at 7 p.m.

There will be twelve regular games
