Beast Feast set Jan. 25

All men are welcome to attend the Beast Feast at Conover Evangelical Free Church Saturday, Jan. 25, from 5:30 to 9 p.m. for a night of food and fellowship.

“Bring one of your best meat dishes for a chance to win a Beast Feast award, and to share with the rest of the men,” said a church representative.

The event will also feature tables set up to play euchre and cribbage.

Winter Frolic planned Feb. 9

The Conover Lions Club will hold its 55th annual Winter Frolic Sunday, Feb. 9, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Conover Town Park, located at 4665 Highway K East.

The event will include downhill sledding,  and toboggan,  saucer and snowboard races with prizes in each age category. Participants need to take their own sledding equipment.

Clothing donation

Santa visit
Students at Land O’ Lakes Elementary School had a visit from Santa the week before their holiday break. As Santa visited with each classroom, he handed out a gift bag to each student provided by the Conover/Land O’ Lakes Elementary Parent Teacher Association (PTA), Conover Lions Club and The Tackle Box in Land O’ Lakes. The PTA also provided the students with a movie and popcorn afternoon on the last day before break. Fire department collecting discarded Christmas trees

The Land O’ Lakes Fire Department will collect discarded Christmas trees through Friday, Jan. 31.

The trees may be dropped off behind the Land O’ Lakes Fire Department building located at 4337 Highway B.

The trees will be used for blocking purposes during the Three Bear Sled Dog Race scheduled Feb. 8-9.

Postmaster retirement
Conover Postmaster Debra Martin announced that she will retire as postmaster Dec. 31. Martin has worked for the postal service for 28 years starting in Land O’ Lakes in 1985. She also spent time working in the post offices in Phelps, Land O’ Lakes, Eagle River and Woodruff before being promoted to postmaster of Fish Creek in 1992. Pantry donation

Santa Weekend featured numerous holiday events

Santa Weekend in Land O’ Lakes was held the Friday and Saturday after Thanksgiving.

While waiting for Santa to arrive, the library was busy with a Christmas ornament workshop. Winter weather greeted Santa when he arrived at the Land O’ Lakes airport where a crowd was on hand to welcome him and go on the horse-drawn wagon ride to the downtown Christmas celebration across from the library.

Watercolor painting class slated Jan. 6, 13 and 20

Land O’ Lakes Area Artisans Inc. (LOLA) will offer a  beginning watercolor painting class lead by resident LOLA artist Wendy Powalisz Mondays, Jan. 6, 13, 20 and 27, from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. at the LOLA Art Center.

Powalisz has dabbled in art since she was a child and started a serious study of watercolor 20 years ago.

“Her style is bold, graphic and colorful, and her original watercolors are inspired by the creatures found in nature at her homestead in Land O’ Lakes,”

Artist to give critiques at center for the arts
Artist Karen Lenhart will give critiques of community members’ artwork at the Land O’ Lakes Area Artisans (LOLA) Inc. Center for the Arts Wednesday, Dec. 11, from 1-3 p.m. The event is free with a suggested $10 donation to benefit LOLA programming efforts. 			      —Contributed Photo

Artist Karen Lenhart will be at the Land O’ Lakes Area Artisans Inc. (LOLA) Center for the Arts Wednesday, Dec. 11, from 1 to 3 p.m. to give critiques of artwork brought to the event.

Artists of all levels are welcome to bring in two pieces of their work, in any media, and Lenhart will give her expert advice on design, composition, color, technique and suggestions for matting and framing.
