VFW fish fry slated Friday

There will be a walleye fish fry to benefit Stateline Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 8400 Friday, Aug. 8, at 4 p.m. at Post 8400, located on Highway B in Land O’ Lakes. Beer and soda will be available.

Pioneer Lake Lutheran Church in Conover offers a weekly worship service and rural setting amidst the pines of the North Woods and a special event in August.

The Rev. John Kuziej welcomes everyone to attend the weekly 9 a.m. service each Sunday.

“We have a welcoming community and visitors of every kind are welcome to enjoy the peaceful setting,” said Kuziej.

August Fest slated at Hillside Resort

The Lac Vieux Desert Lake Association will sponsor its annual August Fest Sunday, Aug. 10, from noon to 4 p.m. at Hillside Resort off South Shore Road in Phelps.

The event will feature an all-you-care-to-eat?feast including hamburgers, brats, hot dogs, fried fish, crayfish, gumbo, fries and coleslaw. The cost for the meal is $10 for adults and $5 for youth ages 10 and younger.

Disc jockey Dennis James will entertain with karaoke music. There will be a bake sale featuring cream puffs, breads, cookies and other homemade items.

Fundraising raffle tickets cost $5 each

More than 80 fine artists and crafters had their work on display last Saturday at Art Impressions in Land O’ Lakes, including jewelry, paintings, pottery, photography, stained glass, woodworking and textiles. Paul Imholte performed contemporary and classic folk tunes using various instruments.
