Conover celebrates
CONOVER CELEBRATES — Conover-area residents created floats for the Fourth of July parade that traveled down Townline Road to the park on E. Highway K, where the Lions Club’s Party in the Park followed. Above, campers from Camp Ramah in Conover join in the festivities. Fourth of July parade
The Land O’ Lakes Fourth of July parade headed down Highway B as crowds of spectators and eager children awaiting candy to be thrown from floats lined the sidewalks. The Grand Marshal Award went to St. Albert’s Catholic Church, the Big Portage Lake Association float won first place, Land O’ Lakes Public Library won second place and the youth prize went to the Land O’ Lakes Community Garden. Santori holds veterans event

The Land O’ Lakes Veterans of Foreign Wars AMVETS Post 8400 Color Guard Unit kicked off the first day of summer, June 21, by leading The Eagle Has Landed event held by Dr. Gina Santori of Watersmeet, Mich.

Santori’s event was a flag raising and unveiling of a new bald eagle carving by artist Charles Horn of Waters­meet.

Stephens, Bruso to play at farmers market July 10

Fiddler Tess Stephens, accompanied by Chris Bruso on guitar, will perform at the Land O’ Lakes Farmers Market in downtown Land O’ Lakes across from the library Thursday, July 10, from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

Stephens has been playing the fiddle since she was 8 years old. She won the Kansas State Fiddling and Picking Championship when she was 15,

Cancer benefit
The Gateway Ladies Golf League held a fundraiser June 18 for the Pink Ribbon Riders, a nonprofit organization that services breast cancer patients in several states, including Wisconsin and Michigan, at the Gateway Golf Club in Land O’ Lakes. Thirty-two women played golf and had a luncheon afterward. A total of $595 was raised for the organization. Many of the women who participated in the outing are cancer survivors.
