Take A Kid Fishing
The Conover Lions Club held its annual Take A Kid Fishing event in the Conover town park last Sunday on Father’s Day. More than 60 children fished on Lake Itsy Bitsy for trout. Above, youngster  Aidan Moore, who caught Walter the prize-winning fish at last year’s event, was presented his mounted fish, courtesy of Lax Taxidermy in Conover, by Lion Louie Rectenwald (left). Taste of Conover set June 29

The Conover Chamber of Commerce will host the eighth annual Taste of Conover Sunday, June 29, from 11 to 3 p.m. in the Conover Park Pavilion, located on Highway K.

Attendees will be able to sample specialty food items for breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert from 11 area businesses.

Each vendor will have food items available in $1 increments. Dollar tickets may be purchased at the entrance.

There will also be music, and a bounce house and dunk tank for children.

Chain Skimmers kickoff event set June 22

The Chain Skimmers Water Ski Show Summer Kickoff will be held Sunday, June 22, at 4:30 p.m on Pleasant Lake, off Highway 24 in Conover. The water ski show will start at 7 p.m.

The event will feature food provided by Lanny’s Fireside, basket raffles, water activities, games, a 50-50 raffle and music.

Tickets for ages 12 and younger are $6, and $10 for ages 13 and older.

Proceeds will benefit the Chain Skimmers and the Northwoods Alliance for Temporary Housing’s Frederick Place homeless shelter in Rhinelander.

Butterfly hatch
Every school year in spring, kindergarten teacher Cathy Benecke at Land O’ Lakes Elementary School chooses a species of butterfly for her class to watch transform from a larvae into a butterfly. This year, painted lady butterflies hatched from their cocoons, which were in a hanging net basket in the classroom. NorthernWaters sets opening party

The Land O’ Lakes Historical Society welcomes all donors, docents, volunteers and members to the Land O’ Lakes NorthernWaters Museum opening party to be held Wednesday, June 25, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the museum.

The event will feature  hors d’oeuvres and a firsthand tour of recently installed hunting and trapping additions to the guides exhibit by Dr. Barbara Wilkinson.

The exhibit will include a variety of animal mounts loaned to the museum by area hunting and trapping guides.
