Blood drive planned April 29

Land O’ Lakes VFW Auxiliary will hold a Community Blood Drive Tuesday, April 29, from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Fire Barn, located at 4773 Highway B in Land O’ Lakes.

“It is wonderful to see a local organization hosting a community blood drive,” said Jan Hadsell of the Community Blood Center.

“By encouraging blood donation in this way, the VFW Auxiliary is making a conscious choice to give back to our community. We certainly appreciate their support in ensuring an ample blood supply for local hospitals,” added Hadsell.

Blood donors must be at least 17 years old

Reading day
Students at Land O’ Lakes Elementary School and SOAR Charter School participated in Drop Everything and Read (DEAR) Day as part of School Library Month. Teachers and students dropped what they were doing, got comfortable and read for 30 minutes. DEAR Day is held in honor of author Beverly Cleary’s birthday on April 12. In her book, “Ramona Quimby, age 8,” the character of Ramona participates in DEAR Day. Above, first-grader Olivia Payne, enjoys a good book during DEAR Day. —Photo By Janet Garling
