Historical fest set this weekend in Eagle River

Klondike Days will celebrate its 24th year in Eagle River this Saturday and Sunday, March 1-2, with outdoor competitions and turn-of-the-century exhibits.
The two-day event is billed as the state’s most multifaceted winter festival, according to Klondike Days Executive Director Amy Young.
The festival, which has attracted anywhere from 6,000 to 12,000 people each of the first 23 years,

Winter of 2014 keeps tight grip on North Woods

If the cold weather wasn’t enough, another winter storm moved through the North Woods last Thursday night and Friday morning dumping 6 inches of snow on the landscape.

Snomo trail fee OK’d in Assembly

Legislation that would implement a snowmobile trail user fee to provide additional funds for the Wisconsin Snowmobile Program advanced through the state Assembly during floor session last Thursday.
Assembly Bill 407 passed by a wide bipartisan margin of 89-6. The bill is expected to be taken up in the Senate in early March.

Dollar Lake Ice Trials slated in Eagle River

The Wisconsin Autosports Group (WAG) will conduct the Dollar Lake Ice Trials on Dollar Lake at Chanticleer Inn in Eagle River Saturday and Sunday, March 1-2.
This is an autocross-type event open to the public for spectating and competing. Any licensed driver with any car is welcome to attend.

City eyes sale of two properties

Offers to purchase two properties owned by the city were discussed by the Eagle River City Council in a special session last week and the council decided to make counteroffers on both par­cels.
An offer of $146,000 was received from Gateway Properties and Arthur Sorg for 18.05 acres at the intersection of highways 45 and G north of the city.

State land under review for possible sale; includes five parcels in Vilas and Oneida

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has released a list of 33 par­cels of land — including five parcels in Vilas and Oneida counties — that are currently under review for possible sale in response to a new state law that requires the Natural Resources Board to make 10,000 acres of land available for sale by June 30, 2017.
The land under review is located in 23 counties and totals approximately 2,552 acres.

Pines to take over wellness center; free use offered

The Northland Pines School District and the YMCA Eagle River Branch remind area residents that effective Saturday, March 1, the school district will assume responsibility of operating and maintaining a wellness center located in Northland Pines High School.
This new endeavor will be named the Pines Community Wellness Center and will no longer be affiliated with the YMCA of the Northwoods. Both entities are collaboratively working
