Town of Hiles given loan for fire truck purchase

The Board of Commissioners of Public Lands (BCPL) recently approved $581,689 in State Trust Fund Loans to support three municipal projects in Wisconsin, including one in the town of Hiles.
The Hiles loan allocates $160,000 for the purchase of a fire truck.
The village of Rock Springs in Sauk County also was awarded two refinancing loans, one for $385,000 and one for $36,689.

Wisconsin River corridor protected; over 98 acres placed in land trust

“Sometimes the only way to save a piece of property is to buy it,” said Tim Hagen, of Rhinelander. “That is what we did, that is the idea.”
Working with the Northwoods Land Trust (NWLT), Hagen and wife Kimberly Kelling have now saved a special section of the Upper Wisconsin River.
According to Hagen, they bought a 98.78-acre property in the town of Crescent in Oneida County just to conserve it. The land includes more than one mile (5,440 feet) of scenic natural frontage on the Wisconsin River below Hat Rapids Dam south of Rhinelander.

It’s Doyen and Schweizer, Caz and Simac in Vilas

Election results have been posted for the Vilas County Board primary races in Districts 15 (Conover Ward 2) and 21 (Lincoln Ward 3).
In District 15, Steve Doyen and Jim Schweizer will advance to the regular election April 1, with 48 and 27 votes, respectively. Steve Rhode was eliminated from the running with 22 votes.
Incumbent Supervisor Sig Hjemvick did not file for candidacy in District 15.
District 21 will see a regular election between Kim Simac

Hassey, Vander Bloomen win Lincoln primary race

Town of Lincoln supervisor candidates Bill Hassey and Kara Vander Bloomen garnered the most votes in the primary race last week and will move on to the regular election April 1.
Hassey earned 159 votes, while Vander Bloomen got 85.

Mott, Schoeneck advance in primary

Candidates Bob Mott and Dennis Schoeneck advanced in the primary election last Tuesday for the District 7 supervisory seat on the Oneida County Board.
Mott, the incumbent, received 88 votes, and Schoeneck ran a close second with 83 votes. The third candidate, Gregory Meyer, was eliminated from the contest with 23 votes.
Mott and Schoeneck will square off in the spring election April 1.
District 7 covers the towns of Enterprise,

Vilas County map wins first place in contest

“The Address Atlas: Boulder Junction” recently was presented the first-place award in the Map Book or Atlas Map category at the 27th annual Wisconsin Land Information Association conference in Middleton.
There were five entries in this category, and the contest was judged by a volunteer panel of land information professionals.
