City OKs purchase of equipment totalling $156,648 for golf course

New equipment purchases totalling $156,648 for the Eagle River Municipal Golf Course were approved by the Eagle River City Council last week.

Before the purchases were approved, course superintendent Ken Smith explained his preference for greens mowers, an aerator and a groundmaster along with a payment schedule of either three years or paying all costs up front.

“My preference is the Jacobson over the Toro groundmaster,”

Pines considers Good Friday for make-up day

Making up days that school was closed due to snow or cold occupied the discussion of the Northland Pines Policy Committee last week, included the option of having school on Good Friday.

“We have another day to make up,” District Administrator Mike Richie told the committee members. “And winter isn’t over.”

As it stood last week, the last day of school would be in mid-June, with many agreeing teachers would simply be babysitting as the year drew to a close.

Wisconsin’s public libraries to see Internet speed boost

Slow Internet connections in nearly three-quarters of the state’s public libraries will speed up dramatically with a $4.2 million federal E-rate investment in fiber broadband connectivity, according to a press release from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI).
