A counselor from the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at UW-Stevens Point will be in Eagle River, by appointment only, Tuesday, July 8.

Confidential business counseling is available without charge to current or prospective small-business operators on issues ranging from financial management to sources of capital.

The SBDC staff member will meet clients at the Vilas County UW-Extension Office, located in the courthouse at 330 Court St. in Eagle River, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Three area school districts get $184,000 in transportation aid

Three area schools are set to receive a total of more than $184,000, as the Department of Public Instruction is distributing $5 million in aid for districts with above-average student transportation costs under the first year of the high-cost transportation categorical aid.

Northland Pines, will receive $92,465.77 in aid, while Phelps will get $20,467.92 and Three Lakes will accept $71,248.19.

Pines sex ed advisory committee discusses purpose and direction

Members of the Northland Pines School District Human Growth and Development Advisory Committee discussed its purpose and the direction of human growth and development instruction in the school district at the panel’s initial meeting last week.

Pines curriculum director Gayle Daniel led the group of community and district members on the requirements of the committee and the requirements of instruction topics. State statutes indicate the purpose is “to promote the optimal health and well-being of pupils.”

Found Lake association to hold annual meeting

The Found Lake Property Owners Association will hold its annual meeting Saturday, July 12, at 11 a.m. at VanderVort Park on Lost Lake Drive North in St. Germain.

Topics to be covered at the meeting include motor trolling, boat landing inspections, recruitment of volunteer inspectors, reports on activities of the Town of St. Germain Lakes Committee and the Sayner-St. Germain Wildlife Club, muskrat damage and trapping, and spring spearing.
