Joseph J. ‘Joe’ Javenkoski

Joseph J. “Joe” Javenkoski of Appleton died Saturday, April 26, 2014, after a short illness. He was 77.

Mr. Jav­en­koski was born in Three Lakes Feb. 21, 1937, to the late Joseph and Sophie (Kulinski) Javenkoski.

After graduating from Three Lakes High School, he served in the U.S. Army during peacetime from 1960-’62 as an active duty demolition specialist, followed by several years in the Reserves.

He married Ann Marie Bronk Dec. 1, 1962,

Melvin ‘Mel’ Rabe

Melvin “Mel” Francis Rabe, 90, of Phelps, Wis., passed away Sunday, April 27, 2014, at Our Home K-Care Assisted Living.

He was born Dec. 18, 1923, in Eldorado, Wis., a son to Arthur and Gladys Balthazor Rabe.

Mel served his country from 1943 to 1946 in New Guinea and Southern Philippines. He was a machine gunner and was awarded multiple service medals.

On June 29, 1979, he married Audrey Huck.

Irma B. Sherwood

Irma B. Sherwood, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away May 2, 2014, at North Ridge Assisted Living Center while with her family and in the care of Heartland Hospice.

Irma was born in Evan­ston, Ill., on Aug. 2, 1924, to Fred and Minnie (Lochman) Breitzmann.

Irma and her husband, Eben Sherwood, lived in Evanston until their retirement in 1975, when they moved to the St. Germain area to live in what they called “God’s country.”

Joseph J. “Joe” Javenkoski of Appleton died Saturday, April 26, 2014, at Appleton Medical Center.  He was 77.

The funeral liturgy will be held Friday, May 2, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church, located at 500 W. Marquette St. in Appleton. The Rev. William Van Dynhoven will officiate.

Visitation will be held  Thursday, May 1, from 4 to 7 p.m.

GEORGE and LAVERGNE NOVAK

LaVergne and George Novak, married for 71 years, departed this world within three weeks of each other, LaVergne on April 8, and George on April 24, 2014.

Lavergne Novak was born on April 24, 1920, in Chicago, to Joseph Przybylski and Gussie (née Bubenik).

By 1929, her mother had remarried, and LaVergne was adopted by John Bell. She attended Hauser Middle School in Riverside, Ill., and Riverside-Brookfield and Oak Park-River Forest high schools. After school, she worked for the phone company.
