George Joseph Novak and LaVergne Gwendolyn Novak

LaVergne and George Novak, married for 71 years, departed this world within three weeks of each other, LaVergne on April 8, and George on April 24, 2014.

Lavergne Novak was born on April 24, 1920, in Chicago, to Joseph Przybylski and Gussie (née Bubenik).

By 1929, her mother had remarried, and LaVergne was adopted by John Bell. She attended Hauser Middle School in Riverside, Ill., and Riverside-Brookfield and Oak Park-River Forest high schools. After school, she worked for the phone company.

G. James Dempze

G. James Dempze of Wisconsin Rapids died Friday, April 18, 2014, at his residence. He was 70.

Mr. Dempze was born in Stevens Point July 19, 1943, to Gordon and Iris (née Ayres) Dempze.

He married Susie Marlene Eichhorn Dec. 30, 1967, at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Rapids.

Melvin Francis Rabe

Melvin Francis Rabe of Phelps died Sunday, April 27, 2014, at Our Home K-Care Assisted Living in Minocqua. He was 90.

A memorial service will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Phelps at a later date.

Zacherl Funeral Home & Crematory of Fond du Lac is serving the family.

Don “Weasel” Dal Ponte, age 63, a resident of Three Lakes, Wis., for more than 30 years and formerly of Highland Park, Ill., died Saturday, April 19, 2014, in Rhine­lander, Wis.

Jewel Janice Feierabend

Jewel Janice Feierabend, of Joliet, Ill., formerly of Meredith, N.H., St. Germain, Aurora, Ill., and Plano, Ill., died Wednesday, April 9, 2014. She was 93.

Mrs. Feierabend was born Nov. 22, 1920, in Greenway, Ark., to James Garland and Bertha Agnes Cummings.

She moved with her family to Plano in the 1920s. She was married to Ralph Franklin Feierabend.

She was employed during World War II
