Conover man pleads not guilty
to theft from VFW building

An 18-year-old Conover man, who allegedly broke into the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) building in Land O’ Lakes and a residence in the town of Washington, pleaded not guilty to burglary and theft charges in Vilas

County Circuit Court last week.

Gryphyn Taylor Connolly is charged with burglary of a building or dwelling, misdemeanor theft, burglary-armed with a dangerous weapons, felony bail jumping and misdemeanor bail jumping. All charges are party to a crime with three other individuals.

A total of 301 complaints were entered by Vilas County Sheriff’s Department dispatchers last week.

The department reported at least 15 vehicle accidents, one request for an ambulance, three animal problems, four requests for agency assistance, 13 burglar alarms, two burglaries, 12 requests for citizen assistance, one battery, one domestic violence complaint, two fireworks complaints, three cases of fraud, two harassment complaints, two hit-and-runs, one lost person, one report of lost property, two threats, two weapons offenses, 16 re­ports of hazardous conditions, seven juvenile problems/runaways, one disturbance,

Eagle River woman charged
for allegedly altering receipts

A 24-year-old Eagle River woman who allegedly altered credit card receipts at a supper club was charged with three counts of forgery and three counts of misdemeanor theft in Vilas County Circuit Court last week.

Brianna Rae Counter al­legedly altered credit card receipts at Wicked Grill in Eagle River, adjusting the amount of her tips from $18 to $28 July 14, and $16 to $26 on July 17. Then on July 18, Counter, who was a waitress and bartender at the businesses, allegedly changed the tip on a credit card receipt  from $5 to $15 on a bar tab of $27.50, more than a 50% tip discovered by the business owner.

jail time following plea agreement

A 25-year-old Lac du Flambeau woman who faced multiple charges in three separate cases including felony substantial battery, pleaded no contest and was found guilty of two counts of misdemeanor bail jumping and one count of domestic abuse in a plea agreement in Vilas County Circuit Court last week.
