Vilas County Sheriff’s Department dispatchers reported last week at least 12 vehicle accidents, one abandoned vehicle, two reports of disorderly conduct, four fires, one report of lost property, four requests for an ambulance, four animal problems, two requests for agency assistance, one at­tempt to locate, eight burglar alarms, seven requests for citizen assistance, two reports of criminal damage to property, six re­ports of hazardous conditions, seven juvenile problems/runaways, two disturbances, nine reports of suspicious circumstances, six thefts, 10 traffic violations, two vacation checks, three welfare checks, 12 911 hang-ups, one ATV?problem, three utility problems and one DNR violation.

Conover man gets probation
for 2012 pool hall burglary

A 32-year-old Conover man had his sentence withheld and was placed on probation for three years after being convicted of burglary of Joe’s Pool Hall in Conover, in   September 2012, in Vilas County Circuit Court last week.

Carl L. Anderson entered a no contest plea and was found guilty of burglary of a building or dwelling.  Charges of uttering a forgery and misdemeanor theft were dismissed, but read in a sentencing as part of the plea agreement. A charge of possession of drug paraphernalia also was dismissed.

Among the complaints entered by Vilas County Sheriff’s Department dispatchers last week were at least 12 vehicle accidents, two requests for an ambulance, six animal problems, two requests for agency assistance, two at­tempts to locate, 10 burglar alarms, 11 re­quests for citizen assistance, five reports of criminal damage to property, two reports of domestic violence, one re­port of hazardous conditions, four juvenile problems/runaways, five disturbances, six reports of suspicious circumstances, one theft, nine traffic violations, one threat, two welfare checks, 18 911 hang-ups, three reports of operating while intoxicated, two drug problems, one battery, one burglary, one fire, one fireworks complaint, two in­stances of found property, one hit-and-run, one instance of lost property and two reports of trespassing.

Arbor Vitae man gets probation
after agreeing to theft charge

 

A 21-year-old Arbor Vitae man had a felony charge of burglary of a building or dwelling dismissed and entered a no contest plea to a charge of misdemeanor theft in a plea agreement in Vilas County Circuit Court last week.

Kevin B. Kurek, who took money from a fanny pack in another person’s home, had an  additional charge of misdemeanor bail jumping dismissed in the plea agreement.

Kurek’s sentence was withheld and he was placed on probation for two years with the following conditions: restitution of $125 to the victim; fined $505; not to possess or consume intoxicants; no taverns; alcohol and other drug abuse (AODA) counseling as deemed appropriate by the agent; participate in restorative
