Vilas County Sheriff’s Department dispatchers last week reported at least 28 vehicle accidents, three requests for an ambulance, three animal problems, five requests for agency assistance, nine burglar alarms, two burglaries, 12 requests for citizen assistance, three batteries, two fireworks complaint, two cases of fraud, one hit-and-run, two reports of lost property, three re­ports of hazardous conditions, two juvenile problems/runaways, four disturbances, two reports of suspicious circumstances, two thefts, three traffic violations, four welfare checks, 10 911 hang-ups, two reports of operating while intoxicated, one attempt to locate, one fire, one trespassing complaint and four snowmobile accidents.

At least 20 calls were re­ferred to the Eagle River Police De­partment

Conover man gets probation
for thefts at VFW, residence

An 18-year-old Conover man involved in a theft at the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 8400 in Land O’ Lakes and a town of Washington residence pleaded no contest and was found guilty of misdemeanor theft and felony theft, special facts, in Vilas County Circuit Court last week.

Gryphyn Taylor Connolly had his sentence withheld and he was placed on probation for three years. Charges of burglary of a building or dwelling,?burglary-arming self with a dangerous weapon and misdemeanor theft were dismissed

Land O’ Lakes woman charged
for sexual assault of child under 16

A 40-year-old Land O’ Lakes woman, charged with two counts of sexual assault of a child under 16 years of age, had a preliminary hearing set for Jan. 2 at 10:45 a.m. in Vilas County Circuit Court last week.

Jody Ann Shepherd al­legedly had sexual intercourse twice with a 15-year-old Mount Pleasant boy June 29 in the guest bedroom at Shepherd’s residence in Manitowish Waters. The boy told investigators during an in­ter­view Oct. 24 that Shepherd was acting “flirty”

Man, 20, gets deferred judgment
in Eagle River sexual assault case

A 20-year-old Eagle River man, who had a charge of sexual assault of a child under 16 years of age amended to fourth-degree sexual assault, pleaded no contest in Vilas County Circuit Court last week.

Cody K. Gehrke also pleaded no contest to an amended charge of misdemeanor bond violation and disorderly conduct.

Circuit Judge Neal A. Nielsen III approved a 24-month deferred entry of judgment on the sexual assault conviction with the condition that Gehrke complete an assessment of appropriate thinking on sexual behavior, with follow-through and any counseling deemed necessary by the agent. He also must commit no crimes during the next two years.
