Over 290 run in Moonlight 5k
The Northland Pines School District sponsored its first Moonlight 5K?Run in downtown Eagle River Saturday night. More than 290 racers took to the streets at 10 p.m. to start the event. Sean McCormack of Land O’?Lakes finished 13th overall with a time of 20:54. Fall sports meeting scheduled at Pines

Athletes in grades nine through 12 planning to participate in a fall sport at Northland Pines High School should attend the fall sports meeting at the school with a parent or guardian, Monday, Aug. 4.

Beginning at 6 p.m. in the high school commons, all WIAA physical or alternate year cards, signed co-curricular codes, emergency medical forms and payment of the $25 activity fee may be completed.

Before an athlete is allowed to practice, all forms must be on file and the activity fee paid. In addition, any athlete with outstanding fines from previous years will be required to pay in full in order to participate in any co-curricular activity this coming school year.

Ministry Medical Group updates sports physicals

Ministry Medical Group (MMG) has announced that sports physicals will now be performed together as a well-child exam with a sports physical component.

A full well-child exam allows the providers to perform a more comprehensive evaluation that expands beyond the physical component of the child and identify any underlying issues that a 10- to 15-minute sports physical may not have found.

Parents must take along WIAA sports physical forms and any other sports

Aho makes move to win Modifieds

The rain held off long enough for stock car racing at Eagle River Speedway last Friday night, and threatening skies didn’t hold the racers back from making some exciting moves.

Both WISSOTA-sanctioned classes saw defending class champions pull the rabbit out of the hat to win their respective features.

In the Midwest Modified feature, Phelps’ Jerry Grasse used his 21 years of racing experience to keep defending champion Jesse Aho in check. That is, until Aho made a move that few drivers have ever attempted in the track’s 40-year history.

Volleyball tournaments slated at Arbor Vitae Firemen’s Picnic

Two volleyball tournaments will be held at the Arbor Vitae Firemen’s Picnic Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 2-3.

The Co-Ed Quads Mad-Hatter Volleyball Tournament will be held Saturday for a cost of $40 per couple.

YMCA plans golf scramble

The YMCA of the Northwoods will sponsor its 14th annual golf scramble Friday, July 18, at Pinewood Country Club in Harshaw.

Registration is now open and costs $75 per person if signed-up by July 11. The cost is $85 after that date.

Check-in will take place at 8 a.m.

The Three Lakes Pickleball Group held a three-day tournament from Friday through Sunday at Don Burnside Park in Three Lakes. Players came from as far away as Arizona, Utah and Florida to compete in men’s, women’s and mixed doubles events. Wounded Warrior softball games set in Lake Tomahawk

As the Lake Tomahawk Snowhawks season gets into full swing, the team has announced it will welcome the Wounded Warrior Ampu­tee Softball Team (WWAST) for a snowshoe game Friday, July 25, at 7:30 p.m. at the Lake Tomahawk Snowshoe Diamond.

The game will be followed the next day by a regular doubleheader softball game at the Minocqua Sports Park.

The 14th annual OAM Alumni Hockey Tournament at the Eagle River Sports Arena last Saturday was another successful reunion of Northland Pines hockey players, according to event organizers.

The 3-on-3 hockey tournament raised about $5,200 for the Eagle River Recreation Association (ERRA), according to tournament coordinator Tom Obrodovich.
