Purple Pride Golf Fundraiser slated Sunday in Eagle River

The Purple Pride Golf Fundraiser to help fight pancreatic cancer will be held Sunday, June 22, at Eagle River Golf Club.

Golfing will be limited to the first 40 two-person teams with paid registration. The format will be four-person teams consisting of two men and two women. Two-person teams will be paired to make a foursome.

Scoring will consist of the women’s scramble score plus the men’s scramble score on each hole.

The entry fee is $70 per player and includes 18 holes of golf,

The U14 Blizzards recently won the Blue Devils AAA Hockey Invite Champions held in Onalaska. The team consists of skaters from all across northern Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Discovery Center sets Just Tri It! triathlon

The North Lakeland Discovery Center will host its annual Just Tri It! triathlon Saturday, June 28, at 8:30 a.m.

Athletes may register by Friday, June 27, to receive a discount rate and a complimentary race shirt.

This event typically attracts more than 200 racers, and is meant for both first-timers and experienced triathletes.

Included are a 300-yard swim, 10-kilometer trail bike ride,

YMCA plans golf scramble

The YMCA?of the Northwoods will sponsor its 14th annual golf scramble Friday, July 18, at Pinewood Country Club in Harshaw.

Registration is now open and costs $75 per person if signed-up by July 11. The cost is $85 after that date.

Check-in will take place at 8 a.m. and golf will begin at 9 a.m. Lunch will be served on the course at 11 a.m.

The Northland Pines girls soccer beat Amherst 7-0 and Waupaca 4-1 last week to advance to the WIAA?Division 3 Sectional semifinal this Thursday at West Salem.

Three Lakes to host 34th Softball Classic

The 34th annual Three Lakes Softball Classic will be Friday through Sunday, June 20-22, with $600 going to the first-place team.

The men’s double-elimination slow-pitch tournament has a $125 entry fee. Other payouts will be $400 for second, $300 for third and $200 for fourth.

Volleyball camp offered

Northland Pines High School volleyball staff will offer a volleyball camp with Rodney Wilde, Olympic medalist and volleyball coach.

The camp will be held Monday, July 7, through Wednesday, July 9. For ninth- through 12-graders, camp will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and will cost $95. For fifth- to eighth-graders, camp will run from 2 to 4:30 p.m. and cost $75. The cost includes a camp T-shirt.

The Northland Pines baseball team lost to Medford 10-0 in a WIAA?Division 2 Regional tournament game last Tuesday.

The Eagles were seeded fourth in the Regional and Medford was seeded fifth. During the regular season the teams split their two games with Pines winning the first 10-6 and Medford taking the second 1-0.

This time, it was all Medford.

Three area players to compete June 17 in all-star hoops game

The Kiwanis Club of Ironwood, Mich., is sponsoring  girls and boys basketball all- star games featuring senior players from northern Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, Tuesday, June 17, at Gogebic Community College.

The northern Wisconsin girls roster will feature two players from Northland Pines and one from Phelps, and Pines girls varsity coach Larry Bergum will coach the girls all-star team.

Pines girls track team holds awards banquet after season

The Northland Pines girls track team held its awards banquet last Tuesday at the high school to celebrate the season.

“This was a phenomenal season with some awesome kids,” said coach Josh Rhode. “These girls are extremely talented, but more importantly, just great people. It’s been a real joy and pleasure to work with them this season.”
