The Three Lakes High School softball team started WIAA?Regional tournament play last Thursday with a 14-0 win over Niagara. Sophomore Maddie Lorbetske (above) helped earn the win for Three Lakes on the mound. The No. 2-seeded Lady Jays were scheduled to face Florence Tuesday, May 21, at home. Lady Jays shut out Phillips

The Three Lakes Lady Jays soccer team defeated Phillips 5-0 last Thursday after a 7-1 loss to Ashland Tuesday.

The game against Phillips was the team’s best outing of the season, according to coach Stacy Stroud.

Three Lakes got on the scoreboard early, when Kacey Running scored off an assist from Cathrine Meeder.

Eagles drop doubleheader to Rhinelander

The Northland Pines baseball team lost a Great Northern Conference (GNC) baseball doubleheader against Rhinelander  last Thursday.

In game one, Rhinelander took control early and cruised to a 10-0 victory. The Eagles played much better in the second game, losing 2-0.

Tim Ebert was the offensive leader for Pines going 3- for-4 with a double and a walk. Jacob Schlitt reached base three times with a single and two walks, while Tanner Beaman, T.J. Harsla and Teddy Karlovich each added a base hit.

Ten Eagles advance to track Sectional

Eight athletes from the Northland Pines High School track team will advance to WIAA?Sectional competition after placing in Regional events in Tomahawk Monday evening.

The Eagles came in third out of nine teams, coming in behind Medford in first and Nekoosa in second.

“The meet was a dogfight with 14 points separating the top five teams,” said Pines coach John Hayes.

Five Eagles athletes earned all-conference honors at the Great Northern Conference (GNC) Championship track meet last Thursday, as the boys team took third place out of seven teams.

Pines scored 107.5 points, coming in ahead of Mosinee with 93.5, Antigo with 91.5, Rhinelander with 76.5 and Tomahawk with 69.

Lakeland Union won the meet with 121 points, followed by Medford in second place with 117.
