Softball meeting planned May 4

The Northern Lakes Softball League will hold its annual meeting for the upcoming 2014 softball season at Eagle Lanes in Eagle River Sunday, May 4, at 7 p.m.

Games on hold
The spring sports seasons at Northland Pines, Three Lakes and Phelps are getting off to a slow start due to snow still on softball, baseball and soccer fields. Like last spring, athletic directors will reschedule many games in April. The Great Northern Conference decided to postpone all conference games prior to April 22 for baseball and girls soccer. All conference softball games in the first half of the season have been postponed and will be scheduled as doubleheaders for the second half of the schedule. 3-on-3 event set April 26 in Michigan

The annual Carney-Nadeau 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament will be held Saturday, April 26, at Carney-Nadeau High School, Mich.

Rosters for the one-day tourney will be limited to four players per team.

Divisions will include third and fourth grade, fifth and sixth grade, seventh and eighth grade, ninth and 10th grade and 11th and 12th grade, with boys and girls playing separately.

All games will be officiated and rules

Strauss of Three Lakes bowls 300 for 829 series
Tommy Strauss of Three Lakes High School recently bowled a perfect 300 game on his way to an 829 series. He fell short of setting a citywide record at Hodag Lanes by 29 points for the series. 	—Contributed Photo

Three Lakes High School sophomore Tommy Strauss, 15, recently bowled a 300, 279, and a 250 for an 829 series in junior league play at Hodag Lanes in Rhinelander.

This was the first 300 game and 800 series bowled in the junior league, and he came up just short of the city record of an 858 series. Strauss is on the Three Lakes-Rhinelander High School bowling team.

Falcons drop two in league tourney at Fond du Lac

The 2014 Great Lakes Hockey League Tournament was held at the Blue Line Family Ice Center in Fond du Lac last weekend.

The Eagle River Falcons and the Mosinee Papermakers faced off in a Friday afternoon game that saw the always tough Papermakers defeat the defending champion Falcons 7-4. The Falcons then suffered a 9-1 loss to the Fond du Lac Bears in round two Friday night.

Mosinee skated to an early lead, scoring twice in the first five minutes of the first period.
