Decker women get early start with developmental race series

Sisters Paige and Claire Decker and cousin Natalie Decker, all of Eagle River, are getting  an early start to the stock car 2014 race season, all participating in developmental race programs.

Paige Decker was selected for NASCAR Drive for Diversity (D4D), the leading youth development program for multicultural and female drivers. Decker will compete for the Rev Racing team in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series.

The 20-year-old driver competed in her Super Late Model at tracks throughout the Midwest in 2013.

Five Pines players get GNC honors

Five players from Northland Pines were named to the Great Northern Conference (GNC) 2013-’14 boys hockey all-conference teams.

Pines senior goalie Jacob Stephan was named to the first team, along with senior forward Zach Kennedy.

Stephan was second in the conference with a 1.64 goals against average and third in the conference with a 0.919 save percentage. Kennedy was third in the conference in scoring with 27 points on 17 goals and 10 assists.

Sixth-grade boys basketball team to attend Invitational State Tourney

The Northland Pines sixth-grade boys basketball team recently was invited to the Wisconsin State Invitational Championship Tournament (WSICT).

The team will be among approximately 24 teams in the state invited into the Division 3 tourney.

This marks the second time that a Northland Pines youth boys basketball team has been invited to State.

The WSICT is an annual basketball event

Pines boys hockey players compete in post-season events

Three senior from the 2013-’14 Northland Pines boys hockey team were chosen to represent Section 3 in the 32nd annual Wisconsin Senior Class Tournament in Waupun last weekend. Details are:

Pines defenseman Brandon Hunt had two assists in the tournament, while forward Zach Kennedy had one assist. Goalie Jacob Stephan had a .944 save percentage, a shut out and a penalty shot save. Stephan tied for second in overall standings of the 16 goalies that participated.

Banquet slated for pool league

The Eagle River Miller Beer of the Northwoods Thursday Night Pool League banquet will be held Saturday, March 22, at 1 p.m. at Uncle Kent’s.

There will be a pool tournament, food and prizes. All participants are welcome to attend.
