Strauss of Three Lakes bowls 300 for 829 series

Three Lakes High School sophomore Tommy Strauss, 15, recently bowled a 300, 279, and a 250 for an 829 series in junior league play at Hodag Lanes in Rhinelander.

This was the first 300 game and 800 series bowled in the junior league, and he came up just short of the city record of an 858 series. Strauss is on the Three Lakes-Rhinelander High School bowling team.

Falcons drop two in league tourney at Fond du Lac

The 2014 Great Lakes Hockey League Tournament was held at the Blue Line Family Ice Center in Fond du Lac last weekend.

The Eagle River Falcons and the Mosinee Papermakers faced off in a Friday afternoon game that saw the always tough Papermakers defeat the defending champion Falcons 7-4. The Falcons then suffered a 9-1 loss to the Fond du Lac Bears in round two Friday night.

Mosinee skated to an early lead, scoring twice in the first five minutes of the first period.

Former Northland Pines hockey standout Adam Kresl is playing for the Kenai River Brown Bears in Sodotna, Alaska, competing in the North American Hockey League (NAHL).

After a wild weekend that ended the NAHL 2013-’14 regular season, the Kenai River Brown Bears and Kresl found themselves playoff bound, finishing in fourth place in the Midwest division.

The Bears are facing rival Fairbanks in the first round of playoff competition.

Pines girls track team gets fourth place at home meet

The Northland Pines High School girls track team recently hosted an indoor meet, taking fourth place out of nine teams.

West Iron County won the meet with 175 points, followed by Chequamegon with 171.5, Kingsford, Mich., with 80, Pines with 77, Ashland with 42, Antigo with 30, Crivitz with 15.5, Wakefield-Marinesco, Mich., with 13 and Watersmeet, Mich., with 2.

Golf leagues plan scrambles, meetings

The Eagle River Monday men’s golf league will hold a scramble and organizational meeting Monday, April 21, at 4:45 p.m.

The scramble will be followed by the meeting. Anyone interested is welcome to join.

The Eagle River Wednesday men’s golf league will hold a scramble and organizational meeting Wednesday, April 23, at 4:45 p.m. All are welcome to join.
