Jays win Regional title for first time in 18 years

After a first-round bye and wins over Goodman-Pembine and Florence, the Three Lakes Bluejays baseball team won the WIAA Division 4?Regional Championship title for the first time in 18 years.
The Jays beat Goodman-Pembine 15-1 last Tuesday before defeating Florence 18-14 Wednesday.
They were set to face Wausaukee Tuesday, June 4, in Tigerton in Sectional competition. The winner of that game was scheduled to play the winner between Rib Lake and Rosholt in Tigerton later that same day.

The Northland Pines High School track team competed last Friday and Saturday in the State Track and Field Championship in La Crosse.
“It’s mentally challenging to be competing on a track in front of 10,000 fans while you are running against the state’s best runners,” said Pines coach John Hayes. 
Friday, the boys ran preliminary events in attempts to qualify for finals.

Lady Jays get win, fall in Regional play

The Three Lakes High School soccer team ended its regular season last Tuesday after posting a strong 8-0 win over Ironwood, Mich.
The team went on to fall 1-0 to Bayfield-Washburn in the first round of WIAA?Regional tournament play Thursday.
Seven different Lady Jays contributed the eight goals scored against Ironwood, including Kacey Running with two, Cassie Hoger, Karlie Stefonik, Erika Running, Kiana Liebscher, Natalie Miller and Cydney Devereaux.

Pines girls track competes at State

The Northland Pines High School girls track team ended its season at the WIAA?State track and field meet last Friday.
While none of the girls advanced to the finals in the three events they competed in, Samantha Goll finished 15th overall in the 100-meter dash and 11th overall in the 300-meter hurdles.
She was seventh in her heat race in the 100-meter with a time of 14.04 seconds and fifth in her heat in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 49.39 seconds.

Sports medicine program planned for area students

Marshfield Clinic Sports Medicine will offer a free summer program beginning June 19 for high school students interested in learning more about medicine and athletic training.
The student athletic training course aims to provide instruction and hands-on experience in sports medicine and help participants better understand injury management and protection techniques.
Students who complete this course and supplement it with CPR and first-aid courses on their own time can participate in athletic training with high school sports teams during the school year.
