Rain ends racing early in Eagle River; speedway to host Fourth of July special

With the previous Friday night’s races being cancelled due to rain, and rain moving in this past Friday night, racers and track officials at Eagle River Speedway did all they could to get as many races in before the rain came.

All of the heat races were ran and three of the six feature races were finished before the clouds opened up.

First Moonlight Run slated in Eagle River

The Pines Community Wellness Center will hold its first major fundraiser, the Moonlight Run (formerly the Moonshine Run) Saturday, July 12, at 10 p.m. in downtown Eagle River near the depot.

Northland Pines School District officials said they hope to make the run an annual fundraising event for the wellness center, which the district took over center operations from the YMCA in 2013.

The event will be a 5-kilometer (5K) run along with a children’s 1-kilometer (1K) race. Activities for the entire family will begin at 7 p.m. with food, games, music and a 50-foot inflatable obstacle course.

Men’s Senior Championship golf event set in Eagle River

The Eagle River Golf Course will host the Eagle River Men’s Senior Club Championship Sunday, July 20.

The 18-hole event is sponsored by Eagle River State Farm Insurance agent Paul Belcher.

Tee times will start at noon. There will be $600 in prize money, based on a 35-player field. There also will be awards for individual hole competitions.

Players must be age 55 or older to participate,

Northwoods Combat Challenge scheduled Saturday, July 5
The Northwoods Combat Challenge is set Saturday, July 5, at the AMSOIL World Championship Derby Track in Eagle River. Stef Schneider of Sugar Camp will be featured in the main event. Schneider is involved in a nonprofit organization called It Matters to One Animal Rescue. To date, she has saved more than 200 dogs from shelters in California and Wisconsin. The proceeds from the tickets she sells from the event will benefit her dog-saving endeavors. 	—Contributed Photo

The AMSOIL World Championship Derby Track in Eagle River will once again be the home for the Northwoods Combat Challenge, sanctioned by USA Federation of Pankration Athlima, Saturday, July 5.

The open day tournament will begin at 10 a.m. Championships and main events will start at 6 p.m. This is an outdoor event. Free camping will be available.
