Uptown Lanes of Niagara won the first-place trophy and $800 at the Old Timers Softball Tournament last weekend in Phelps. YMCA plans leagues for basketball, volleyball

The Rhinelander YMCA?has announced it is planning fall adult basketball leagues and co-ed volleyball leagues.

The basketball leagues will be a call-you-own-foul league and is slated to begin Sept. 24.

Games will all have a supplied scorekeeper and games will be played to 50-60 points. The league will run as a six-week round robin and feature a single elimination tournament with the champions bringing home T-shirts.

The league will have an entry fee of $150. The Y has opened

Bowling league seeks members

The Wednesday Ladies Night Out Bowling League at Eagle Lanes recently announced it has openings for new bowlers. No experience is necessary.

“It’s a fun league with bowlers of various skills,” said league spokesperson Joyce Leander. “Come join in the fun.”

The first night of league will be Wednesday, Sept. 3, at 6:30 p.m. for practice and 6:45 p.m. for league start.

Bowling league plans meeting

The Thursday Sportsmen Bowling League will hold an organizational?meeting Thursday, Aug. 28, at Eagle Lanes starting at 7 p.m. Teams should send a representative to the meeting.

Any team unable to send a representative should call Eagle Lanes at (715) 479-4555, Don Tess at (715) 891-2059 or Steve Janssen at 479-6934 to reserve a team spot in the league. New teams are welcome.

Agenda items will include the team sponsor fee, U.S. Bowling Congress sanction fee, weekly bowling fee and league schedule.

The Northland Pines Eagles football team is looking to improve on its third-place conference finish last year and advance deeper into the WIAA?playoffs during the 2014 season set to open this Friday.

Head coach Eric Swanson will put 16 returning letterwinners on the field, but depth could be a problem for the Eagles.
