Artarama inspires shoppers, artists
The 42nd annual Artarama Riverwalk Art Show and Sale was held Saturday at Riverside Park in Eagle River. Thousands of spectators visited Artarama to view and purchase the works of more than 100 fine artists and crafters. Jerry Varrelmann (above left) of Hartland and Diana Sell (above right) of Eagle River particularly liked the hats made by Pamela Siehr (above center) of Madison. Judges Wendy Powalisz and Marilyn Annin, both of Land O’ Lakes, presented four Artarama Awards of Excellence. Blues Fest set this Saturday

Joe Bucher’s Blues Fest is set Saturday, July 26, from 3 to 10 p.m. at the St. Germain Community Center Pavilion.

The event will feature  blues/rock music, Southern-style barbecue, raffle prizes and a silent auction featuring sports memorabilia and custom-made crafts.

Vactionland Voices schedules concerts

Vacationland Voices, an ecumenical choir of more than 75 voices, will present concerts Wednesday, July 23, and Thursday, July 24, at 7 p.m. at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church on Highway G in Eagle River.

The program titled, “I Love to Tell the Story” will feature musical selections of varied genre with a journey through Biblical events.

The concerts are organized by Barb Gauger, Lori Hunter, Becky Jefferson and Karen Stanton.

Sixth annual Faerie Fest set Saturday in Three Lakes

The sixth annual Woodland Enchantment Faerie Festival will be held this Saturday, July 26, from 1 to 4 p.m. at 7434 Halverson Road in Three Lakes.

Saying farewell to Diana Anderson, Walter E. Olson Memorial Library director, will not be easy for library patrons and staffers after her more than 23 years of leadership.

Nonetheless, the Friends of the Library are masterminding a public farewell for Anderson that will take place Monday, July 28, from 5 to 7 p.m. in the library.

Stained glass
Al Geiger of Eagle River crafted this stained-glass Wisconsin Badger and plans to donate it to UW-Madison in honor of his wife, Jane, who received her bachelor of science in nursing, master of science and ph.D degrees from the university. Hunter Jumper horse shows set in Conover, Eagle River

The Northwoods Hunter Jumper Circuit kicked off its 2014 Summer Series July 12-13 with the Northwoods Hunter Jumper Show in Norway, Mich., and two more shows in the series are planned in Conover and Eagle River.

Many local equestrians from Deerpath Stables in Conover, and Great Northern Riding Club and Pine Ridge Equestrian Center, both in Eagle River, were in attendance in Norway, showcasing their skills along with the talents of their horses.

Youth garden activities offered

Northland Pines Farm to School offers weekly garden activities in St. Germain and Eagle River as part of its summer garden program.

St. Germain Elementary School will have activity days Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to noon.

Do you remember the mohair sweaters that girls wore years ago — those oh-so-soft sweaters that were their favorites? Well, mohair is back!

Cassandra Nass raises nearly 30 angora goats which produce mohair of colors ranging from cream to brown to black at her family farm, The Goat Garden in Land O’ Lakes.

Nass has a creative back-to-Earth talent as she not only cares for the animals,

Technology training classes scheduled

Northland Pines School District’s (NPSD) technology committee announced it will offer four free iPad, iPhone, Chromebook and Google training sessions Monday, July 28, at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., and Wednesday, July 30, 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. at Northland Pines High School in Eagle River.

Attendees will meet in the commons and then move into classrooms depending on the number of participants.
