Heritage Fest set June 29-30 in Three Lakes

Northwoods Heritage Fest will be held at the Three Lakes High School athletic field Saturday and Sunday, June 29-30, featuring German, Irish, Italian, Polish and northern Wisconsin cultural offerings.

Those offerings include traditional foods, exhibits, dancing, music, live entertainment, children’s activities and cultural history.

There will be a lumberjack show at the event, according to Three Lakes Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Skip Bruns­swick.

Land O’ Lakes starts 427-mile bicycle tour

The Great Annual Bicycle Adventure Along the

Wis­con­sin River (GRAB­AAWR) will start in Land O’ Lakes Saturday, June 22, according to the Land O’ Lakes Chamber of Commerce.

Bicyclists will stay on the grounds of the elementary school and in area lodging locations.

There will be activities scheduled at the school

Phelps Home Tour slated this Saturday

The Phelps Historical Home Tour will be held Saturday, June 22, leaving the Phelps Historical Museum at 10 a.m. for a tour of four historical homes and concluding at approximately 3 p.m.

Tour homes for this year’s event include the J.C. Higgins estate, Dunbar Cabin, Big Sand Lake Club and the Largay Home on Sand Lake.

The late Helen Adams Murray, who served as a museum volunteer, will be honored during the tour of Big Sand Lake Club.

Advance tickets are available for $25

Donation helps kick off bee project at middle school

The Eagle River Lions Club recently donated $1,000 to help fund a recently-established honeybee project at the Northland Pines Middle School.

The funds will be used to purchase equipment and materials for the bee project that students will use first-hand, according to middle school science teacher Todd Wilfer.

“This exciting new project will allow students to actively participate in experiences that will be practical and long-lasting,” said Wilfer.

Students will learn the intricacies of life in the bee hive and understand the dynamic connection between events that occur in a local ecosystem and the impact these have on the colony.

Preparations start for 41st Artarama

Plans are being finalized for the 41st annual Artarama River Walk Art Show and Sale to take place rain or shine Saturday, July 20, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Riverside Park, 505 W. Division St. in Eagle River.

“Since its small beginnings in 1972 the show has grown in size and reputation, attracting thousands of visitors who come to purchase unique treasures for their homes or to purchase as gifts,” said an Artarama spokesperson.

Adding that “each spring, the Artarama committee members sift and screen through the applications, to bring attendees variety, quality and several new artists each year.”

Three area students receive scholarships

Eagle Chapter #218 Order of the Eastern Star of Eagle River recently announced that it will sponsor three scholarships to area high schools.

Johnathon Wawronowicz of Lakeland Union High School won the Art Bonnee Memorial Scholarship. He will attend UW-Madison.
