Scarlet O’Hatters plan lunch meeting May 1

The Scarlet O’Hatters of the Northwoods will meet Thursday, May 1, at Pitlik’s Sand Beach Resort, located at 8064 Highway D in Eagle River. The social hour will begin at 11 a.m. with lunch served at noon.

Entrée choices will be Aspen Grove salmon served with wild rice, chicken Kiev with wild rice or barbecue ribs served with french fries.

Art program seeking exhibit submissions

The Wisconsin Regional Art Program (WRAP) is seeking submissions for an unjuried art exhibit at Eagle River’s Walter E. Olson Memorial Library to be held  from May 12 through June 7.

This exhibit is sponsored by Headwaters Art League and UW-Madison Department of Liberal Studies and the Arts.

Artists from the state are welcome to participate in the exhibits and workshops held in each region of Wisconsin. Area Michigan artists are also welcome to participate.

Lions fish fry slated May 2

The Sugar Camp Lions Club will host an all-you-can-eat fish fry Friday, May 2, at 5 p.m. at the Sugar Camp Town Hall.

The dinner includes fish, hash browns, coleslaw, desert, coffee and milk. Beer and soda will be available for purchase at the bar.

Ticket prices are $8 for adults and $4 for children younger than 12. Toddlers may enter free of charge. All proceeds benefit Lions projects.

Several area residents serve as volunteers or staff under the auspices of three different organizations and churches that minister in poverty-stricken Haiti.

2014 Fitness Challenge winding down at center

The contestants in 2014 Fit For Life Health & Fitness Challenge at Pines Community Wellness Center in Eagle River, sponsored by The Vilas County News-Review, Ministry Health Care and the YMCA of the Northwoods, have completed their final week of weigh-ins.

Immunization group sets goals for 2014; new vaccines listed

The Northwood’s Immunization Coalition (NIC) met in January to plan long- and short-term goals and objectives for 2014 and beyond.

The NIC, which started in 2005, is a partnership consisting of representatives from local health departments, public and private health-care providers and local school districts to provide accurate immunization information and to improve childhood and adult immunization levels.

Reading night planned April 22

There will be a family reading night Tuesday, April 22, from 6 to 7 p.m. in the Northland Pines kindergarten through eighth grade building in the Instructional Media Center (IMC).

Parents and students will have the opportunity to listen to a book being read, make a craft, create a puppet show and read together.
