Seed presentation scheduled

Many Ways of Peace in Eagle River will hold its monthly Peace Café Thursday, Aug. 14, from noon to 1 p.m. This month’s topic is “Preserving the Seed Commons: Creating a Community Seed Library” presented by Debbie Jircik, director of Many Ways of Peace.

Jircik, a graduate of Native Seeds and SEARCH’s Seed School and co-founder of the Seed to Seed Edible Garden Project, will give a presentation on basic seed saving and building a community seed library.

Clean Waters, Smokey Bear to be Olson Library programs

Saturday, Aug. 2, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. teen volunteers will be in the children’s area to help with origami, friendship bracelets and Lego activities.

Monday, Aug. 4, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., Judy and Bob Ruch will present a program on Clean Boats, Clean Waters.

Attendees will hear a story, do a craft, make some music

Skills prominent at Art Impressions
After a cloudy start, the sun shined last Saturday on the annual Art Impressions, a juried art show sponsored by the chamber of commerce and Land O’ Lakes Area Artisans. More than 80 fine artists and crafters displayed their work and live music kept the crowds entertained. Forest Fest slated Aug. 2

The fourth annual Forest Fest 2014 is set Saturday, Aug. 2 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Trees For Tomorrow campus in Eagle River and will kick off with an all-you-can-eat lumberjack breakfast.

The free, family-friendly festival is designed to celebrate all the forest has to offer, from wood products, to wildlife, to water resources, to wilderness and recreational opportunities.

The event will feature a UW-Stevens Point Timbersports competition, horse-drawn wagon rides, chain-saw carving, a children’s fishing pond, papermaking demonstration, Smokey Bear, geocaching, guided trail walks, Wisconsin trappers, live birds of prey, invasive species

Sayner Street Fair scheduled Aug. 3

The Sayner-Star Lake Chamber of Commerce announced that its first annual Sayner Street Fair will be held Sunday, Aug. 3, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sayner’s Main Street.

“The chamber is pleased to introduce this family-oriented event to the North Woods of Wisconsin, and are excited to announce the receipt of a Joint Effort Marketing grant to market the event,” said a chamber spokesperson.

Events will include live music, food vendors, sidewalk sales, a farmer’s market, historical exhibits and an arts and crafts fair.
