Free tax assistance offered at Kalmar

Free income-tax assistance, provided by AARP, is currently available for Eagle River area residents Thursdays, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Kalmar Senior Center located at 1011 Railroad St. in Eagle River.

This service is available to people with low and moderate income, with special attention to those age 60 and older.

Tax counseling services are offered free of charge by volunteer tax aides trained by the IRS and AARP to assist in tax preparation.

The services rendered will include preparation of 2013 federal and Wisconsin tax returns and, if applicable, the Wisconsin Homestead Credit return.

Soup For Shelter set April 26 in Woodruff

The third annual Soup For Shelter fundraising event will be held Saturday, April 26, at Holy Family Catholic Church on Highway J in Woodruff.

Doors will open at 5 p.m. to give diners time to make bids on numerous silent auction items or to purchase tickets for the bucket raffles.

Proceeds from this benefit will go to the Frederick Place, a temporary, emergency shelter that is operated by the Northwoods Alliance for Temporary Housing Inc. (NATH).

Admission is by free-will donation. Area restaurants

Relay For Life kickoff event set March 24

Relay For Life of the Northwoods, to be held Friday, June 20, in Eagle River, announced its upcoming preparation efforts for the event.

The kickoff event will be held Monday, March 24, at Eagle Waters Resort in Eagle River.

Networking will begin at 6 p.m., the program will follow from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. and a screening of the documentary “Into The Wind,” by special permission of ESPN, will start at 7:30 p.m.
