Chamber, LOLA partner for Summer Days of Art series

The Land O’ Lakes Chamber of Commerce in partnership with Land O’ Lakes Area Artisans Inc. (LOLA) will launch the Summer Days of Art on Memorial Day weekend in Land O’ Lakes during the chamber’s Summer Launch.

This program ran last year as the 100 Days of Art, a program inspired and ran by LOLA for 100 days in 2013. More than 80 art events were held bringing artists and art enthusiasts to the Land O’ Lakes area.

“LOLA is thrilled that the Chamber is taking the lead roll for the Summer Days of Art program,” said Barb LeMoine, vice president of the LOLA Board.

Chronic conditions workshop to begin April 24 in Eagle River

Vilas County Commission on Aging (VCCA) will offer “Living Well with Chronic Conditions,” a six-week workshop beginning Thursday, April 24, from 1 to 3:30 p.m. at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Eagle River. Participants will meet once a week.

“If you or someone you care about has chronic conditions such as diabetes, arthritis, high blood pressure, depression, heart disease, chronic pain, anxiety or fibromyalgia, this workshop can help you take charge of your life,” said a VCCA spokesperson.

Film on America’s beginnings to be shown in Eagle River

Vilas Country residents are invited to two free showings of Kirk Cameron’s epic documentary titled “Monumental – In Search of America’s National Treasure.”

This film is hosted by Kirk Cameron, directed by Duane Barnhart, and written by Kevin Miller.

“Monumental” is the story of America’s beginnings. Who were the first people to settle on this soil? What were their values and why did they travel to an unknown land to start a new life?

Martinis in May set in St. Germain

The St. Germain Area Chamber of Commerce announced Martinis in May competition, a new event, will be held Saturday, May 3, from 6 to 9 p.m., at the Whitetail Inn in St. Germain.

“The North Woods will send their best bartenders to compete in the first annual Martinis in May competition,” said a chamber representative. “There will be light hors d’ oeuvres and live music will be provided by Tony Ocean.”

Attendees will sample and vote on martinis in the best original martini (vodka/gin) and most creative martini categories.

Concrete Specialists and Sons Inc. of Eagle River recently donated $500 to the Eagle River Elementary School’s Mission Possibles Running Club.

Mission Possibles Running Club, in its third year of running, helps promote healthy living choices, confidence, strength, courage, character building, conflict resolution and team building among third-, fourth- and fifth-grade students.
