Pines forensics team advances to State

The Northland Pines High School (NPHS) forensics team, made up of eight students, will compete at the State competition held at UW-Madison Friday and Saturday, April 11 and 12.

Team members advancing to state include Alex Falcetta and Dominique Acuna Barrientos, both in four-minute speaking; Katie Piper in poetry; Benn Gober in solo acting; and Hannah Tilley, Ashley Gardner, Nathan Lofy and Hunter Kiesow in play acting.

Travelogue set at Nicolet April 4

Nicolet College will offer three free Creative Arts events in April that will feature a travelogue to Mexico’s remote Sierra Madre mountains, a look at emerging internet technologies and an art exhibit from an artist collective which happens to double as a buffalo farm.

“Mexico: The Bad, the Great and the Ugly with Bill Behrenbruch,” a travel-ad­venture film, will show Friday, April 4, at 7:30 p.m. at the Nicolet College Theatre in Rhinelander.

Alumni Association arranges fundraiser

The Northland Pines High School (NPHS) Alumni Association will hold a fundraiser Saturday, March 29, from 6 to 9 p.m., at Eagle Lanes, located at 534 W. Pine St. in Eagle River.

There will be an all-you-can-eat pizza buffet for $10 per person. Funds will go towards creating a base for the 2015 NPHS Alumni Association Scholarship, as well as to help with initial costs for the 2016 All-Class Reunion.

Blood drive set March 27

Ministry Eagle River Memorial Hospital will hold a blood drive for the Community Blood Center Thursday, March 27, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The blood drive will be located across from the hospital in the lower level of the Medical Arts Building, located at 150 Hospital Road in Eagle River. Park and enter from the lower level.

Meat raffle set April 6

The American Legion Riders Association of Wisconsin District 11 will hold a meat raffle fundraiser in Eagle River Sunday, April 6, at 1 p.m. at Gordo’s, located at 933 N. Railroad St. in Eagle River.

The meat will be provided by Prime Choice Meat Market in Eagle River. Raffle packages include beef, pork, bacon, chicken, turkey, sausage and other assorted meats.
