All Pines forensics participants earn medals in State competition

The Northland Pines High School (NPHS) forensics team participated in the State competition Saturday, April 12. All seven participants earned medals.

Earning gold medals, a perfect score of 25 points, were Katie Piper in poetry; and Hannah Tilley and Ashley Gardner, both in playacting.

Earning silver medals, 23 or 24 points, were Hunter Kiesow and Nathan Lofy, both in playacting; and Benn Gober in solo acting.

Student performing arts concert scheduled April 30 in Eagle River

Northland Pines High School forensic, instrumental and vocal students will be featured in a performing arts concert Wednesday,?April 30, at 6:15 p.m. at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Eagle River, following a church supper.

Participating students are some of the Class A or Starred First students from both State Forensics and the Regional Solo/Ensemble festivals.

The concert follows a supper sponsored by the Flock,

Angel On My Shoulder acquires Camp Hozhoni

Angel On My Shoulder (AOMS), a St. Germain-based nonprofit cancer support foundation, has acquired Camp Hozhoni from the American Cancer Society.

Camp Hozhoni is a weekend camp for children younger than age 18 living with cancer and their families. The camp will be held the weekend of Sept. 5-7

Harmonious Wail, Bergara Quartet to perform May 2

The Three Lakes Center for the Arts’ 2014 season will open with performances from Harmonious Wail and the Gonzalo Bergara Quartet, featuring a blend of gypsy jazz and swing, Friday, May 2, at 8 p.m. at the center, located at 1760 Superior St. in Three Lakes.

Harmonious Wail features Sims Delaney-Pottoff of Madison on mandolin and vocals, Maggie Delaney-Pottoff as the band’s  songstress and percussionist, and Jeff Weiss, winner of the 2012 MAMA Best Bass Award, on bass.

Danceworks recital set in Eagle River

Danceworks Unlimited will present its 22th annual recital, “Wild About Dance,” Saturday, May 3, at 1:30 and 6 p.m. at the Northland Pines High School auditorium in Eagle River. The show will be approximately two hours in length.

Students will present choreographed routines in tap, jazz and ballet, and perform to a variety of music including “Welcome to the Jungle,” “Animal Crackers in My Soup,” “Roar,” “Young Wild Girls,” “Demons,” “Dancin’ Crazy,” “Teddy Bears Picnic” and “Can’t Hold Us.”

This year marks the 22nd year of Danceworks Unlimited,
