Church concert
Approximately 70 singers prepared seven weeks for the Vacationland Voices “I Love to Tell the Story” concerts held July 23-24 at St. Peter the Fisherman Cat­h­olic Church in Eagle River. Around 300 people attended the concerts, and more than $1,800 was raised for the Vilas County Salvation Army, Northern Access Special Olympics and Warm The Children. Purple Pride Golf Fundraiser nets $4,700 to fight cancer

The Purple Pride Golf Fundraiser, an 18-hole scramble played in June to help raise funds to combat pancreatic cancer at Eagle River Golf Course, raised $4,700 for the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.

Forty-eight participants, 24 women and 24 men, played in four-person teams. The results were divided into two flights with each person in the top three teams in each flight rewarded with either a $35, $25 or $15 restaurant gift certificate to a North Woods business.

The festivities ended in the Eagle River Golf Course

Pines teacher to speak on money’s role in politics

“Money and the Divisive Nature of Politics,” a presentation by Northland Pines High School Teacher Alan Tulppo, is set Tuesday, Aug. 4, at 7 p.m. at Many Ways of Peace in downtown Eagle River.

Tulppo currently teaches political science, economics, sociology, criminology and history at the high school.

According to Tulppo, the political climate in the United States reinforces the statement that elections have consequences.

Comedy show scheduled at Wild Eagle

“The Hobbit Trail: A Misguided Comedy Tour” will bring its nationally recognized stand-up comedy show to Wild Eagle Resort’s Blue Heron Restaurant in Eagle River Saturday, Aug. 2, at 9:30 p.m.

The event will feature comedians Nate Ford, a Wisconsin native, and Brendan O’ Day of Boise, Idaho. They have a 20 years of stand-up comedy experience.

Ford has appeared on NPR’s “A Prairie Home Companion”

Faerie Fest
The sixth annual Woodland Enchantment Faerie Festival recently was held in Three Lakes.
