Technology training classes scheduled

Northland Pines School District’s (NPSD) technology committee announced it will offer four free iPad, iPhone, Chromebook and Google training sessions Monday, July 28, at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., and Wednesday, July 30, 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. at Northland Pines High School in Eagle River.

Attendees will meet in the commons and then move into classrooms depending on the number of participants.

Blues, rock band to perform July 31

The Madison area blues, rhythm and rock band, The Jimmys, will perform Thursday, July 31, at Three Lakes Center for the Arts at 8 p.m.

The group won Artists of the Year and Blues Performers of the Year awards at the 2013 Madison Area Music Awards.

Author Hirsch to speak at Trees
MARK HIRSCH

Author Mark Hirsch, who documented a year-in-the-life of a lone bur oak with his iPhone camera, will discuss the project during a pre-Forest Fest spaghetti dinner fundraiser on the Trees For Tomorrow campus, Friday, Aug. 1.

A wine and cheese social will begin at 5 p.m. and will be followed with dinner and Hirsch’s presentation at 6 p.m.

Hirsch will socialize throughout the evening with dinner attendees, answering questions and sharing insights about  his book, “That Tree.”

POPsAlive Concert nets $1,520 for Frederick Place homeless shelter

More than 200 people attended Prince of Peace Lutheran Church (POP) in Eagle River for the Peaceful Waters POPsAlive Concert July 10, giving $1,520 in freewill offering to benefit Frederick Place homeless shelter in Rhinelander.

In addition, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans will match 50% and thus donate an additional $760.

Church sets garage sale

Abundant Life Outreach Center in Eagle River will hold an all-church garage sale fundraising event Thursday through Saturday, July 24-26, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the church located 210 Capich Dr., behind the cemetery.

All proceeds go towards the new sanctuary. The church began the process of building a debt-free addition to the sanctuary in October 2013.
