Oneida platbooks available for sale

The recently published 2014 Oneida County Platbook, the sale of which is sponsored by the Oneida County 4-H Leaders Association, is now available for a cost of $35.

The hardcopy of county land ownership maps may be purchased at the UW-Extension office located in the basement of the Oneida County Airport or at the Oneida County Clerk’s office at the courthouse.

Platbook sales have been the primary fundraiser

 The Headwaters Chapter of Muskies Inc. recently donated $2,000 to the town of Lincoln for a new roll-out pier at the Braywood landing on Catfish Lake. The 50-foot aluminum pier is 4 feet wide, has boat bumpers and an 8-foot handicapped-accessible approach and features a non-skid surface. Wolf trapper classes planned this fall

The Wisconsin Trappers Association and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will partner to offer a series of advanced wolf trapper education courses in September and October 2014.

These courses will cover a number of topics, including basic season framework, wolf ecology, trapper ethics and responsibility and hands-on trap set demonstrations.

Wardens to target impaired boaters during state operation June 27-29

“Get smart, be skilled and stay sober enjoying Wisconsin’s waters.”

That’s the state theme for June 27-29 when Department of Natural Resources (DNR) conservation wardens will join local boat patrols for Operation Dry Water, the annual national boating safety campaign dedicated to increasing public awareness about sober boat operation by removing impaired drivers.

New Heiting book takes readers deer hunting in the North Woods

Steve Heiting’s obsession for hunting whitetailed deer in the big woods of the upper Great Lakes states and Canada has resulted in a new book.

Heiting, who hails from St. Germain and is the managing editor of Musky Hunter magazine, has written, edited or contributed to 20 different books about muskie fishing. Now he made boot tracks in a different direction with the release of his first hunting book, “Hunting Northwoods Bucks.”
