World renowned dog sledder to hold program at Ottawa

The Ottawa National Forest will hold a program on dog sledding at its visitor center Saturday, Feb. 15, from noon to 1 p.m.
Patty Lewison — a local musher and member of the Wisconsin Trail Blazers Sled Dog Club and the International Sled Dog Race Association — will be on hand to provide a dog-sled demonstration and answer questions.
Participants will meet Kea, Lewison’s lead sled dog, and check out sledding equip­ment close up.

DNR offers tree seedlings PDF Print E-mail

The Wisconsin State Nursery Program sells high-quality native tree and shrub seedlings to landowners to plant on their Wisconsin land.
The seedlings may only be used for conservation purposes including forest products, wildlife habitat and erosion control.
“Trees help in so many ways,” said Pat Murphy, state nursery program team leader for the Department of Natural Resources (DNR).
The minimum order is 300 seedlings and must be ordered in increments of 100 of each species. Larger orders receive price reductions.

Ice fishing tournament planned on Plum Lake

The 12th annual Plum Lake Ice Fishing Tournament will be hosted by the Sayner-Star Lake Lions Club Saturday, Feb. 8, with $700 in cash and thousands more in merchandise prizes to be awarded, according to event organizers.

The entry fee for the tourney is $25 and tickets are available from Lions Club members; Up North Traders, SaynerMobil Express and the Sayner Pub, all in Sayner;

Conover to host jamboree

The Conover Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department will hold its fifth annual Ice Fishing Jamboree Saturday, Feb. 1, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Pioneer Lake.

Participants may access Pioneer Landing Road off of Chicago Ave. Registration will take place between 7 and 8 a.m. The fee will be $25.

Outdoor women set next outing in Washburn

The Outdoor Women’s Group will meet Sunday,?Feb. 9, at 1:15 p.m. to hike, snowshoe and cross-country ski at the Washburn Trails northwest of Rhinelander.

Participants should meet at the shelter and take a treat or beverage to share.
