Land O’ Lakes Arts (LOLA) recently announced that the organization has been awarded a Creation and Presentation Program (CPP) grant from the Wisconsin Arts Board.
Grants given by the CPP provide artistic program support to established, nonprofit arts organizations that create or present ongoing arts programming which produce a significant local or regional impact.
The $3,060 grant was utilized to help offset costs for LOLA’s summer Community Arts Event in the LOLA Sound Garden.
The Sound Garden is an outdoor, site-specific, immersive sound installation curated by Minneapolis musician and artist J.G. Everest.
Everest creates these sound installations in various places throughout North America, and this was the third year in a row that this event was held with LOLA.
Over 80 hidden speakers dotted the walking trails by the town pavilion and park, creating a peaceful and tranquil environment where sound and nature converged as participants walked through.
“I truly needed this visit to be immersed in the sounds, sights, smells, the art, and poetry,” said Lois Bates, participant in the event. “This life is far too scattered. So are our thoughts that unsettle us. During the event, I was peacefully grounded.”
LOLA added free arts workshops before the Sound Garden exhibit, with community members having the opportunity to participate in painting, photography, music and poetry. The resulting works from the Sound Garden were added to the exhibition.
All of these workshops were free and open to the public, with 35 people participating in its culmination.
The LOLA Sound Garden exhibit for 2023 had over 220 people participate in the walk-through.
This event provides opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to come together and celebrate the arts, inspire creativity, and foster a sense of community pride.
According to organizers, the Sound Garden is created by LOLA to help provide a more vibrant and engaging experience for everyone to enjoy.
“In a world of busy lifestyles, how wonderful it was to step away, sit, reflect, and listen,” said Jen Ramirez of her experience. “I was able to listen to the sounds only nature can provide. Listen to the perfect harmony of peace, tranquility and balance. I am grateful to have the opportunity to participate in this harmoniously peaceful movement.”
Event organizers at LOLA expressed their gratitude to the Wisconsin Arts Board for this grant and its continued support of the arts.
