It was Sabrina Blanchet, of Drummondville, Quebec, who will take the P1 position when the 24th running of the Vintage World Championship race takes place Sunday, Jan. 12. She piloted her No. 79 sled with blistering speed down the front and back stretch which made the difference to take the Dash For Cash final during Friday Night Lightning tonight.
Matt Goede, of New Germany, Minn., finished in a close second, where both racers blew the field away in the last race of the night.
From nearly the drop of the green flag, it was Blanchet and Goede who dominated the field. After an early caution after a crash in turn three that forced a restart, Blanchet and Goede separated themselves from there. Blanchet took the lead into turn one and two off the restart as both she and Goede went ski for ski down the backstretch. With about five or six laps to go, the Drummondville driver held the top spot firmly, but Goede followed close behind. It looked like entering every turn it was Goede’s opportunity to pounce, but Blanchet sprung out of the corners like leaving a slingshot which added some distance between the two. That type of racing continued as the white flag flew and Blanchet drove one last half-mile to victory.
Her fast lap of the run clocked in at 17.737, while Goede took his best lap at 17.765. The next best lap time was 18.454 by the No. 83 Nathan Feucht.
This comes after Goede dominated his heat race and semifinal with a semifinal-best lap time of 17.683.
The rest of the field finished with Feucht taking thrid , No. 216 AJ Lange in fourth, 27X Calvin Iverson in fifth, 233 Matt Bennett and 22 Andrew Darraugh in seventh.
Blanchet did break a ski in her semifinal race and the team took the brief break between the races to quickly make the fix with a replacement before the final.
The rest of the Super Mod 440 class will qualify for the top 10 tomorrow between 2-3 p.m. before a last-chance qualifier is run on Sunday at noon.
