Arbor Vitae man sentenced in sexual assault case

Jacob Thoms-Bent, 28, of Arbor Vitae, pleaded guilty to one felony charge of second-degree sexual assault of a child at a plea/sentencing hearing last week. Judge Daniel Overbey sentenced Thoms-Bent to 12.5 years in the Wisconsin Prison System, which includes 4.5 years of confinement and eight years of extended supervision. Conditions include being on the sex offender registry for life and any other conditions determined by the DOC. There were $518 in financial obligations to be paid directly to the DOC. There are 380 days of presentence credit. The offense took place on March 23, 2025.

Steven Martinson, 23, of Hayward, pleaded guilty to one felony charge of possession of narcotic drugs. Judge Overbey stayed a sentence of one year of initial confinement and two years of extended supervision for three years of probation with conditions. There were 87 days of presentence credit in the case of revocation. The offense took place on Oct. 8, 2025.

Curtis Wolfe, 38, of Lac du Flambeau, appeared for a plea/sentencing hearing on one felony charge of possession of narcotic drugs. Judge Daniel Overbey sentences Wolfe to 3.5 years in the Wisconsin Prison System- 18 months of confinement and two years of extended supervision. The offense took place on Nov. 8, 2024.

Charles Wolfe, 42, of Lac du Flambeau, pleaded guilty to one felony charge of burglary to a building or dwelling and one felony bail-jumping charge at a plea hearing. The defense requested a presentence investigation. A sentencing hearing was scheduled for June 10 at 2 p.m. The offenses took place on Aug. 25, 2025.

Marlie Allen, 35, of Lac du Flambeau, pleaded guilty to one felony charge of possession of methamphetamine and was given two years of probation with conditions. Judge Daniel Overbey stayed a sentence of nine months in Vilas Jail. There were also $518 in court costs. In another case, Allen pleaded guilty to one felony charge of battery to prisoners. Judge Overbey stayed a sentence of 60 days in Vilas Jail for two years of probation with conditions.
The offenses took place on Oct. 1 and Oct. 18, 2025, respectively.

Robert Beson, 35, of Lac du Flambeau, appeared for a judicial pretrial on one felony OWI charge (fourth w/ passenger <16 years old) and one misdemeanor. The court granted a bond modification, down from $2,500 to $1,000, with the same conditions to maintain absolute sobriety, take prescriptions as prescribed and to have no weapons. The alleged offenses took place on Dec. 22, 2025.
