Crandon man convicted of fourth OWI offense

Theodore Gans, 34, of Crandon, pleaded guilty to one felony charge of a fourth OWI offense at a plea/sentencing hearing last week in Vilas County Circuit Court. Judge Martha Milanowski stayed a sentence of 12 months in Vilas Jail for two years of probation with conditions. Sixty (60) days of conditional jail time is one of the conditions, including a $4,000 fine and two years of an IID and license revocation.

Edward Chosa Jr., 40, of Lac du Flambeau, pleaded not guilty to one felony charge of failure to comply with an officer’s attempt to take a person into custody at an arraignment hearing last week. Bond was continued, and a judicial pretrial was scheduled for Nov. 10 at 8:30 a.m.

Brian Cross Jr., 45, of Presque Isle, appeared for a sentencing hearing on revocation last week on one felony charge of manufacturing/delivering amphetamine and one felony charge of possession with intent to distribute amphetamine/methamphetamine. Judge Daniel Overbey adopted the prosecutor’s recommendation of five years in the WPS: two years of confinement and three years of extended supervision. There were 122 days of presentence credit. This sentence will run concurrently with another case involving possession of methamphetamine, where the court ordered 12 months in Vilas Jail with 55 days of presentence credit.

Corey Cherek, 48, of Hatley, pleaded not guilty to one felony charge of theft by contractor ($10,000-100,000). Bond was continued, and a judicial pretrial was set for Nov. 17 at 9:45 a.m.

Vincent Diver, 40, of Lac du Flambeau, appeared for a plea/sentencing hearing for multiple cases inside Vilas Court last week. Diver pleaded guilty to one felony charge of possession with intent to deliver amphetamine/methamphetamine. Judge Daniel Overbey ordered Diver to serve three years of confinement and three years of extended supervision. There were 114 days’ credit in this case. He also pleaded guilty to one felony charge of bail-jumping and two misdemeanor charges. He was sentenced to nine months in Vilas Jail for the felony and one of the misdemeanors. The other charge carries a $150 fine plus costs totaling $$642. Another case with one felony and one misdemeanor bail jumping charge received a sentence of nine months in Vilas Jail with 23 days of credit. All sentences will run concurrently with each other.
