It ended up being the first loss of the season for the Northland Pines football team as the Eagles fell to the Crivitz Wolverines 51-7 Friday night in a Northwoods Conference battle in Crivitz.
The Wolverines used the ground game to their advantage, gaining over 350 yards on the ground with five rushing touchdowns.
One of those touchdowns came from a 96-yard spurt by the Wolverines
Crivitz blitzed Northland Pines out of the gate on both sides of the ball, gaining a 27-0 advantage after the first quarter.
As the game progressed to the second quarter, the Eagles still couldn’t grab any momentum as the home Wolverines extended their lead to 37-0 at halftime.
Crivitz scored two more times before Northland Pines finally got on the board in the fourth quarter. Backup quarterback Will Dickman scrambled from inside the 10-yard line to get the Eagles on the board with less than a minute left in the game.
The Eagles rushed for 36 yards as a team, and Dickman’s rush was the lone score for the Eagles. Pines finished the night with just 50 total yards offensively. Three interceptions throughout the game halted the offense in the loss.
The team moved to 3-1 (1-1) on the season and will return home this coming week, and will look to bounce back with another Northwoods Conference matchup.
Northland Pines will celebrate Homecoming throughout this week and will end with the homecoming football game against Crandon this Friday, Sept. 19, at 7 p.m.
