Deceased 76-year-old male named in June officer-involved shooting

Posted

More details have been released on the officer-involved shooting that left one man dead in Lake Tomahawk last month.

A press release update issued by the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office indicated that on June 17, at approximately 10 a.m., deputies Alyssa Knabenbauer and Justin Orth went to 5620 Lumen Lake Drive to arrest John Krga, 76, for first degree sexual assault of a child and repeated acts of sexual assault to the same child. During the arrest, Krga produced and discharged a firearm.

Orth responded by discharging his firearm, striking Krga. Knabenbauer did not discharge her firearm. Krga was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Pursuant to Wisconsin law that requires an outside agency to investigate officer-involved critical incidents, the Department of Justice (DOJ) Division of Criminal Investigations (DCI) is directing the investigation.

The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office thanked the Minocqua and Woodruff police departments, Oneida County Ambulance Service, Wisconsin DNR, Great Lakes Indian Fish and Wildlife Commission, Marathon County Bomb Squad, Oneida County Medical Examiner’s Office, DCI, and the Wisconsin Professional Police Association for their assistance with this critical incident.
