Input from voters is needed on a draft proposal that would create a permanent redistricting solution for fair maps across the state.
The public is invited to attend the upcoming Independent Redistricting Commission hearing Wednesday, Dec. 3, at 6 p.m. at the Veterans Resource Center (VRC) in Eagle River to learn more.
The Wisconsin Fair Maps Coalition says that currently, Wisconsin voting maps are “fair, representative and not gerrymandered” by either political party. But without a more permanent redistricting solution, these maps are only in place until 2030 when the next Census occurs. The goal of creating the commission is to ensure that Wisconsin’s maps cannot be gerrymandered by either political party going forward.
At the meeting, information of a draft proposal for an Independent Redistricting Commission that would be composed of equal representation of voters will be shared, and input will be collected from those in attendance.
Once it’s completed, the proposal will then be put before the Wisconsin legislators to support as a bill.
