Fire danger remains high in parts of the North Woods, including Vilas, Oneida, Forest and Lincoln counties, heading into this week.
As of Monday morning, fire conditions are considered “high” by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources’ (DNR) burning restrictions map, and burning is allowed only with a DNR annual burning permit from 6 p.m. to midnight for a covered barrel, debris piles less than 6x6x6 feet in size, and grass or woodland areas less than 1 acre. Any burning outside of these restrictions requires a special burning permit issued by the local DNR Ranger Station.
The DNR is asking the public to be especially careful with any activities that could potentially lead to a wildland fire, and to check any fires from recent days to make sure they have been properly extinguished.
