Frenz claims U.S. Figure Skating gold medal

First time in 15 years for ERFSC

Northland Pines sophomore and avid figure skater, Charlotte Frenz, has become the newest U.S. Figure Skating Gold Medalist at the Eagle River Figure Skating Club (ERFSC). This prestigious achievement is earned by only about three percent of figure skaters and marks the first time in 15 years that an ERFSC skater has reached this milestone.

Frenz earned her gold medal in the skating skills discipline. Skaters must successfully pass eight progressively difficult skating skills tests, demonstrating mastery of edge quality, power, control and overall skating technique to achieve this.

Frenz took a different mindset into her testing and said she never tried to stress about it, but tried to go along for the ride. It paid off for the sophomore skater.

“I reminded myself that this may be my last skating skills test and to enjoy it rather than stress.”

Her first gold medal represents over a handful of years of dedication, perseverance and hard work. Frenz has attended numerous skating camps, participated in regular testing opportunities and spent countless hours practicing to improve her skills. She is also an assistant coach and mentor to younger skaters at ERFSC. She enjoys helping others develop their skills and pursue their own dreams in the sport.

While earning a gold medal is a significant achievement, Frenz sees it as just one step in her skating journey. As only a sophomore in high school, she continues to set ambitious goals for the future. More gold medal opportunities are already set up ahead of her when the time comes.

“I hope by the end of my senior year to be a triple gold Medalist, which would mean passing my Gold Solo Free Dance and Gold Ice Dance tests,” Frenz said.
