Hwy. W culvert replacement set to begin next Monday

Posted

The Vilas County Highway Department announced that culvert replacement work on County Trunk Highway W, between County Highways K and P, will begin Monday, May 5.

This work is being completed in preparation for a larger paving project scheduled for later this summer. Replacing the aging culverts in advance will help ensure the integrity and longevity of the new pavement.

To ensure the safety of workers and motorists, CTH W will be closed to through traffic Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. during construction. The project is expected to take approximately four weeks to complete, weather permitting.

A signed detour will be in place utilizing CTH K and CTH P. Local traffic and emergency services will be accommodated as needed.

Residents and travelers of the Towns of Manitowish Waters, Winchester and Presque Isle should expect delays and are encouraged to plan alternate routes during the closure periods.

In addition to this work, the Highway Department is also planning a longer full road closure later this summer for the replacement of the large Rainbow Creek culvert, located on CTH W between CTH O and CTH P. An announcement regarding the dates and details of that closure will be made once the contractor’s schedule is finalized.
