John J. Hora Jr

John J. Hora Jr. passed away peacefully at home on Jan. 5, 2025, at the age of 95.
John was born in Stickney, IL on July 31, 1929, to Martha Hendrickson Hora and John J. Hora Sr.
He served in the Navy as a radio operator from 1951-1955. He was stationed in Key West, FL.
He married his first wife, Carol Mathis, and lived in Brookfield, IL where they raised their two sons, John J. Hora III and Thomas M. Hora, who predeceased him in 2024.  
John worked most of his life as a pressman for several Chicago newspapers. He was a Boy Scout leader when the boys were young.
After retirement, he moved to Eagle River where he was involved in the Northwood's Wood Carvers Club and was chaplain for Camp 56, Disabled American Veterans of Eagle River/Vilas County. He was also an avid bowler and while on the Senior Bowling league he met and later married Florence Simms. They were blessed with 27 years together. They traveled to Arizona for many winters and spent summers in the U.P. at their home on Huron Bay.  
John is survived by his wife, Florence; son, John III; grandchildren, Bethany (Nathan) Edmonds, Aly (Logan Howe) Hora, Christopher (Adriana) Hora and Jackie (Andrew) Oettinger; nine great-grandchildren, stepchildren, Judy (Tripp) Anderson, David Simms, Randy Simms, Debbie (Jim) Beenken and Rick Simms.  
A funeral Mass was held Monday January 13, 2025, at St. Peter Catholic Church in Eagle River, WI. Visitation was held one hour prior to the service.
