Kula Ranch to host fundraiser to move historic cabin Saturday

Posted

Kula Ranch will sponsor a fundraiser for the Save the Cabin Campaign this Saturday, Aug. 1, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Kula Ranch Roadside Stand, 3860 Kula Vista Drive in Eagle River.

The community is invited to enjoy pizza, snacks and desserts while supporting the campaign, which is raising funds to relocate a 130-year-old log cabin from private property to the Eagle River Historical Society’s Highway 45 campus.

Kim Simac of Kula Ranch said she is pleased to support the effort to preserve an important piece of local history. The cabin was donated by Jack and Wendy Godding and was originally part of the Tilden Brothers Resort on Meta Lake.

Funds raised through the campaign will help cover the cost of moving the cabin, as well as any repairs or rechinking needed after the relocation. The campaign will also establish a fund for the cabin’s ongoing maintenance.

Historical Society President Alice Kramer and Director Vito Bortolotti said the fundraising campaign made it possible for the society to accept the donation. Bortolotti noted the organization is in the midst of a major construction project and could not take on the additional expense of relocating the cabin.

Because the property where the cabin currently stands has been sold, the move cannot be delayed.

The campaign is being supported by a GoFundMe page and has a fundraising goal of $25,000. A recent $5,000 challenge pledge was made by Laurie Frykholm. An additional $5,000 in donations will unlock the pledge and bring the campaign to the halfway point.

Frykholm made the gift in honor of her late father, Walter (Terry) Frykholm.

Campaign Chair Wendy Gebauer said the challenge gift gives her confidence that others will step forward to support the effort.

Donations can be made through the Save the Cabin GoFundMe page at gofundme.com/f/save-the-historic-tilden-log-cabin or by mailing a check to Save the Cabin, P.O. Box 2011, Eagle River, WI 54521. Checks should be made payable to the Eagle River Historical Society to qualify as tax-deductible contributions.
