Kurt E. Kahlenberg

January 30, 1958 – October 24, 2026

During a hunting trip to Basin, Montana, Kurt died peacefully doing one of the things he loved, hunting.

Born in St. Paul, MN, son of William J. and Sue W. Kahlenberg. Kurt was a graduate of Two Rivers Washington High School in the class of 1976. After moving to the Northwoods, he married Lynn Smith on August 18, 1990.

Kurt was the owner/operator of Kahlenberg Builders for many years. He was an avid hunter, enjoyed fishing and traveling, and was an avid sports fanatic. Above all, Kurt enjoyed time with family, especially his grandchildren, and he loved his time in the Northwoods.

Kurt was a past member of the Sons of Amvets and a current member of the State Line Auxiliary to VFW Post 8400.

Kurt is survived by his loving wife, Lynn; his three sons, Bill (Melissa) Trochil of Mishicot, Adam (Sara) Trochil of Brillion, and Tanner (Morgan Weber) Kahlenberg of Merril; his grandchildren, Hunter and Lily Trochil, Abigail, Olivia and Jackson Trochil, and Nicole and Jameson Kahlenberg. He is also survived by his siblings, Suzi K Gauther, William W. Kahlenberg, Sr, and Kathy (Tim) Hirvela along with his nephews and niece, Bill Jr, Rich, Heather, Joe and Kyle. He also leaves behind brothers and sisters-in-law, Tammy Smith, Dan (Debbie) Smith, Lori (Mike) Zich, LouAnn Smith, Kenneth Smith, Lee Smith, and many other relatives, friends and business associates.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Bill & Sue Kahlenberg; his niece, Nicole Kahlenberg; and his infant nephew, Kevin Gauthier. Father and mother-in-law, Leroy & Carol Smith; brothers-in-law, Bill and Scott Smith; sister-in-law, Lisa Smith; and infant nephew, Adam Schaum.

Special thanks to the Montana Hunting Group for their actions, support and help to the family during this unimaginable time.

Family and friends will gather from 1-5pm on Saturday, November 7, 2026, for a celebration of life at the VFW in Land O Lakes to share memories and stories of Kurt. There will also be a Time of Remembrance and Scripture will be shared by Pastor Jason Niesing at 2pm.
