The Lakeland Area Mountain Biking Organization (LAMBO) has announced the start of a donation matching campaign that allows supporters to double their impact in bringing exciting trail systems to biking enthusiasts.
Two local donors have pledged $10,000 each for a total of $20,000 to be directed towards the next phase of the Sucker Springs Singletrack trail project, located on Vilas County Forest lands approximately five minutes north of Eagle River on Ski Hill Road. It is centrally located between the communities of Eagle River, Conover, Land O’ Lakes and Phelps.
The trail currently offers about 5 miles of purpose-built, mountain bike-specific trails that are completed, as well as a kiosk. An additional 3.25 miles of trail is scheduled to begin construction mid-July of this year.
LAMBO volunteer and board member Mike Olkowski said the group’s end goal is to build approximately 11 to 12 miles of fun, challenging trail for riders of all abilities. He said the Vilas County Forestry, Recreation, and Land Department has been extremely supportive of LAMBO’s efforts to develop this trail system.
“LAMBO is striving to complete this project with funds raised entirely through private and civic donations, and is committed to developing these publicly owned trails with no expense to the taxpayer,” Olkowski said. “Local communities, residents, and civic organizations have responded extremely well to our fundraising efforts, and we wish to keep our momentum rolling.”
The goal is to complete the $20,000 fundraising goal by Sept. 15.
LAMBO offers several ways for people to support the project. A link is available online at lamobriders.org where donations can be made using Paypal. Donors should mention they wish the funds to go directly toward trail construction at Sucker Springs.
Checks also can be made out and mailed to: LAMBO, PO Box 2106, Woodruff, WI 54568, with Sucker Springs noted in the memo line of the check.

LAMBO is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization so donations are tax-deductible.
