League to discuss ballot amendments

Posted

The League of Women Voters of the Northwoods will host a community conversation Thursday, Oct. 8, to help voters understand three proposed constitutional amendments on Wisconsin’s Nov. 3 ballot.

The free program will take place from 6-7:30 p.m. at ArtStart, 68 S. Stevens St. in Rhinelander.

Debra Cronmiller, executive director of the League of Women Voters of Wisconsin, will lead the nonpartisan discussion, providing background on each amendment, explaining the issues behind the proposals and their potential implications if approved by voters.

The program will explore how the amendments could affect public education, public health, employment, government programs and contracting across the state.

“Constitutional amendments deserve careful consideration because they become part of the state constitution if approved by voters,” said Debra Durchslag, president of the League of Women Voters of the Northwoods. “They are very different from passing new legislation. Our goal is to give people the information and context they need to understand what they will see on their ballot.”

Attendees will have an opportunity to ask questions and learn more about the proposed amendments.

The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan, grassroots organization dedicated to empowering voters and defending democracy.
