Learn to hunt bear program seeks applicants, instructors

Posted

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) encourages hunters who want to learn more about bear hunting to apply for the learn to hunt bear program.

Interested individuals should apply for the program by May 1 and will be notified about their application by June 1.

Anyone who has not participated in the learn to hunt bear program or received a bear harvest authorization is encouraged to apply. Participants must be at least 10 years of age, but there is no maximum age limit.

The program is geared to promote awareness and understanding of hunting bears.

It includes multiple classroom and field sessions, giving the participants hands-on learning of bear biology, population management, habits, habitat, hunting techniques, regulations and safety.

There is also an opportunity to become an instructor. The DNR is also looking for experienced bear hunters for the position, with number of instructors based on how many participants there are. More information for instructors can be found on the Learn to Hunt Bear webpage under “Learn to Hunt Bear Instructors.”
