Leo Horant
Leo Horant, age 74, of Eagle River, WI, passed away on April 9, 2026.
Born on June 21, 1951, in Passaic, NJ, and was a graduate of Clifton High School in Clifton, NJ.
Leo briefly attended college at Tusculum University, TN, and completed his studies in 1975, at Oklahoma State University with degrees in Horticulture and Landscape Architecture. While in Oklahoma, Leo met his wife Mary Kay (O'Neill) and they married May 17, 1975.
After briefly living in Davenport, IA, he moved to Eagle River and opened Horant's Garden Center. Leo & Mary operated the business for 47 years along with wholesale operations in Phillips, WI, and the Gardener's Gate in Eagle River.
Leo especially enjoyed hunting, fishing, and sporting events, having attended an MLB All-Star Game, the NCAA Frozen Four hockey and Elite Eight basketball tournaments, countless Brewers and Packers games as well as Super Bowl XXXI.
Leo's community involvement included being active in Ducks Unlimited, the ERRA Board of Directors, and the Eagle River Volunteer Fire Department. Ultimately, Leo was most proud of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild.
Leo is preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Jean (Guszak) Horant; and his son, Leo III.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 51 years, Mary Kay; his sister, Susan; his children, Kari (Geoff) VeZain, Scott (Beth) Horant, and Greg (Claire) Horant; his grandchildren, Zoe (Ryan), Leo IV, Elliot, Henry, Emma, Henry, Evelyn, Adeline, Penelope; and great-grandchild, Harper.
Leo's wishes are being honored privately by his family.
