Dear Editor:
The permits recently issued by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) demonstrate what the Enbridge Line 5 relocation project supporters have been saying for a while – the project meets our state’s environmental standards and will be constructed in a manner that will reduce environmental impact as much as possible.
This route and construction have been fully thought out to ensure the environment is protected.
Not only does the Line 5 relocation follow our state’s environmental laws, but it will be constructed by union workers trained right here in our backyard. That includes the welders of the Wisconsin Pipe Trades who have thousands of hours of training – both in a classroom and on the job – perfecting their craft.
I am thankful for the DNR’s diligent review of the Line 5 relocation. Now that the DNR has confirmed this project is safe for the environment, it’s time to let our state’s trades men and women get the Line 5 relocation built and keep this critical piece of energy infrastructure operational.
